Sales tax summary for online

I sell both at farmer's markets and online. Why can't I view the sales tax collected online in reports? When I hit taxes it shows all my POS taxes collected by location, but only shows the online sales taxes in a lump, and only for the state tax, not the individual city taxes. Why are these not included and where can I see them? Each city in my state has different sales tax, so I need a location breakdown like I get for my POS, why is this nowhere?

Hello @thebastillery, - I see this is your first post in the Seller Community, so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏 I am happy to investigate this further. Can you walk me through the where you are viewing the tax reporting?

When I go on my dashboard to reports and then to taxes, I can see the breakdown of taxable item sales that have happened on my POS at each of my farmer's markets in several different cities. Then, at the bottom of that report, I can see a number labeled with my state name, which I believe is the taxable item sales for my website. However, my state has different sales taxes for each city, and the reports do not breakdown the online sales by city. So when I file my quarterly sales taxes for my state, I have to go through each and every sale made on my website, enter the shipping address into my state's DOR website to get the location code, and then add them all up to figure out what I owe to each city. Do I have something set wrong so that I am not able to see the breakdown of my online sales by city or is this just a feature that square does not offer?

Hello @thebastillery

Are you using our automatic tax calculator for your Online Store?

Our calculator includes applicable local rates.

One important thing to remember is that tax settings don't sync between your Square dashboard and Square Online, meaning you need to set them up separately for in-person and online sales.

If you do not wish to use our automatic calculator, you'll need to manually add each local sales tax you wish to charge on any online sales you make.

To manually calculate US taxes for Square Online:

  1. From your Square Online Overview page, go to Settings > Sales Taxes or Shared Settings > Sales Taxes.
  2. Select Add tax rate if you don’t already have a US rate, or select Edit under United States.
  3. Make sure the box for Automatically calculate taxes is unchecked.
  4. Optionally add local rates.
  5. Select Save when finished.

Once you have successfully added the local rates you wish to charge, you'll see the breakdown in your reports.

Let me know if this information is helpful.

Thank you
