Making Checkout Notes Field Required

I need to capture a childs name (not the purchasers name) for every order (not every item). I know I can add a notes field to checkout but if customers use Express Pay it bypasses the notes field. Can I make the notes field required or turn off express pay, or is there another option?

@WesterPTO welcome to the community. You can make the a notes field in modifier section and you can make it required.

1. Go to the dashboard, then click items.

2. Click on modifiers, then create modifier.

3. The next window select Text Modifier, give it a name and a display name.

4. Right below that in Settings, turn on Modifier is required.

5. Save it and you should be set.

@mrbl The only other way I can think of would be to have the customer enter the child's name  in the notes section.

Here's how to turn on customer notes in Square Online:
Go to the Square Online Overview page.
Select Settings > Checkout or Shared Settings > Checkout.
Select Advanced Settings.
Select the box next to Allow customer to leave a note to seller.
Select Save.

The only problems with notes is getting the customer to enter the name, with modifers they have to enter a name.

When we were embroidering on children's clothing I used the modifer and only enabled it on the items to be monogrammed.

Hopefully one of these options will work for you.

Hello @mrbl,

Thank you for reaching out. Besides the suggested workarounds, @rtfulk has advised that this would be considered a feature request. Please feel free to submit it on our Ideate Board, where our team can review and consider it for future updates.

I apologize that we don't have an immediate solution at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

@MayaP As the original post mentions, I'm trying to capture a childs name (not the purchasers name) for every order (not every item). @rtfulk useful suggestion for modifiers adds a required field to each item rather than for the whole order. Is there a way to add a required field for the whole order, not individual items?
