Looking for advice on how best to organize my inventory to sync with square online.

I will be doing a big update on my website next year so that I can sync my square for retail with a new square online site. I currently have a separate Weebly website and have to manually update my inventory at the end of the day.

I have a large variety of inventory with over 50 different vendors. Not all items have a sku to scan so will need to be able to easily search items.

I currently have it organized by vendor, vendors=items. Each item from a vendor is a variation. This will not work when I import items to the website.

I don't use Categories for these items.

I was thinking of setting the vendors as Categories and items will need to be each individual item, which will make for a lot of items in my item library.

I am trying to think of any issues that might come up before I actually start this because it is going to be a huge undertaking and I want to get it right the first time.

Please help with any advice or suggestions that have worked for you.

Hello @sustainableware , yes I'd stay away from putting variations under each vendor. I've found that when I want to add items to my website, then shoppers have to go to that main vendor just to see the variations. It can be very confusing; I've found it better to have each item separate. This helps with managing images as well for that item. Unless you have specific variations for a single item....then maybe variations would be useful.

When you're adding new pages to your website, you can create pages by "category", which would populate the page by those items. So if you want to feature all of a vendors items, then it may work well for you to have the vendors as specific categories.

Just think about how you want the web pages/site to work for your customers. Thinking of working "backwards" like this may help in organizing your inventory...so do some quick small sketches of how you want your website to function and navigate, with the kinds of products on each page. Or put out a bunch of blank pieces of paper, and "draw" how you want your website to be...This may help you get your thoughts in line as you tackle the inventory organization stuff.

Hope this helps with your concern. Thanks for your post! Glad you're part of the Square Seller Community!
