I started my business selling in person at local events and am working on creating a website to sell online. Where can I enter the cost of each item, so that I can compare revenue to profit? In searching for this answer I can only find information on cost of goods sold reports for square retail accounts. Is this feature not available for square online?

Hey there @SGH94. Edit your item. Scroll down to the variations section. For each variation, edit it and you’ll see a “unit cost” field. Enter your cost for each variation and save them.
Then, for future sales (this will not change any data for sales in the past), go to your online dashboard home page > Reports > Inventory Reports > Cost of goods sold. This should give you the information you are looking for.
If my answer resolves your issue, please take a minute to mark it as Best Answer. That helps people who find this thread in the future.

Thank you for the response! Unfortunately when I edit an item variation there is no "unit cost field". I do see "unit price" which I assumed was for in person sales, and "online sale price" which I assumed was to be used if the online price was different than in person.
Also, I do not seem to have any inventory reports at all even when I try to build my own custom report.

@SGH94So I had to do a little digging. Unless I’ve missed something else, it seems that all inventory/costing type functionality are only in the paid Retail plans. My sincere apologies for not picking up on that sooner. I am rather active here and help lots of sellers across the entire Square ecosystem. As such, I have access to various functions that usually must be paid for. Otherwise, I couldn’t help those sellers. I should have realized that this was one of those.
