Can my products be presented as a tightly packed list?
In my online Square store, I'd like customers to see items in a tightly packed list. (See prototype below.) I plan to have hundreds of items, and the items won't need photos or any description beyond the name, size, color, and price you see below. Customers would click an item to buy it.
Is this possible in an online Square store?

@threadwell There’s actually a great option/solution for what you are doing. They are called Options, and you define them for each item. From the Add Item screen in your Online Item Library, scroll down to the section “Options and pricing,” and click Add options.
In your example above, you’d have two options for this item — one named Size and the other named Color. After you have defined both lists, Square generates a variation list of all the possible sizes/colors, which you can then price as needed.
In your online store, your customers will just see one item named WonderLiquid, and when they select it they will be given drop down lists for size and color to choose from. The price will be filled in for them.
That will make your store a lot cleaner, less busy and more visually friendly by not showing the customers the options until they choose a particular item.
As for you mentioning, my store only has item names, only a list of items in a particular category. See the screen shot below. You can choose the presentation of your items by Editing your site, going to the Order Online page, selecting Item List, then toggling on/off what you want to show for each item — names, descriptions, photos, etc.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you. My prototype is defective: I intended it to represent a list of unrelated items, so variations and options are not in the cards. Here's a better prototype:
Apples, 1 bushel ................ $15
Cranberries, 1 quart ......... $6
Strawberries, 1 quart........ $5
Mangoes, each ................... $2

@threadwell Understood. So ignore that part of my answer. The best you are going to get for a layout right now is something like mine that I showed above. I have it configured to ONLY show Item Titles, with two columns per row. You can change that to one per row, using the left-hand layout in the Customize section of the Item List parameters (see screen shot below). But two columns is all that is allowed, and of course on a handheld device like a phone, that is going to automatically change to one item per line.
The right-hand layout column is used to present a grid of categories, each of which can have hundreds of items. You might be able to use that to group your items in categories of say “fruit” “vegetables” etc, each with a list of items that is displayed after it is close. That’s about the best you can do with Item layouts right now.
It is no big secret that areas like this — item listings — need a number of new options, and even options for us to be able to lay it out as we want. But, even if that is on the roadmap, I wouldn’t expect it to come out any time soon.
I’ve been thinking about submitting a feature request, or joining the Square Online Beta group. Submitting a request for more flexibility is probably what I’ll do. Sorry that doesn’t help you in the here and now, though!
