I'm trying to add Google Analytics to my Square Online site and it's asking for a code that begins in "UA-" but the code that Google is supplying me starts with "G" and the Square Online Tracking Tools will not accept it. Help? How can I add this tracking code to my site.

@beckiann The UA code stands for Universal Analytics. It is a code you set up to allow others (like Square) to access your site’s private analytics information. The G code is only used for two-factor authentication when you sign into your Google account.
Here’s a link to an informative article that should help you resolve this — https://ryanmilani.com/sem-blog/data-analytics/quickly-find-ua-code/
I hope it helps. Let me know if you need anything else.
Best of luck,

Now if you create a new "property" in GA and do not catch it early, you will only form a G- code. You can now only get a Universal code if you catch it during setup (which I didn't). It is time for Square to update to the new G4 measurement ID. Is there a time set for this to happen? Otherwise, new properties that solely went to G4 are out of luck. Thanks!

I too would really like an answer to this. If you put the G code into the google analytics location it wont take it because square is apparently not keeping up with new changes. At the very least they should be able to include a second link line, one for the old UA code and one for the new G codes. I have to admit, this is not the first time square has let me down on updating usability and I may transfer elsewhere. I find it very frustrating and many times I have chatted with tech and they have no solution for well past time when they are needed.
If anyone has breadcrumbs on how to add this in the "add new code" section I would love the information. I know it is more than just entering the G code so what do I need to paste there to get GA4 linked?

Hi, @TJ314, thanks for reaching out to us here with your query!
Currently, Square does not support GA4 codes, though our Product Team are certainly aware of this change and is working on an update to be more aligned with Google's current analytics tracking. Unfortunately, we do not have an ETA for when this will be implemented.
However, Google is planning to phase out the UA code by July 2023, so in the meantime, you can still insert the UA code on your Tracking Tools page for Square Online. You can find the UA code using these steps.
Once we have more news to share here we'll be sure to update this thread.

Hey there, @mattcici -
Welcome to the Community! As of now, I don't have an update for GA4 Support. This is on our Product Team's radar, but we don't have any specifics.
Keep an eye out for any Product Updates when this becomes available.
Thank you!

I have a new G code and just changed my Google Analytics Tracking ID from the old Universal Analytics to the G code (under Tracking Tools). Do I need to manually install a Google tag after the <head> element on each page in order to start tracking, or will just changing from the old number to the new G code allow Google to start analyzing my site? Is there a step-by-step guide with what do do within Square/Weebly's platform after taking the Google steps you recommended on 9/26/22? Thanks!
