Making loyalty cards

I just got a laser engraver and we are making metal Loyalty cards for our customers that sign up. What I want to do is have the cards finished with a barcode. We have our logo and QR code on the front and the back will say Korie’s Kloset Loyalty Member and barcode for us to scan.

My question is this,  I want make a barcode and when someone signs up I will scan the barcode into the reference ID for that customer, by doing it this way will it still add there sales points to there account?

 I have tested it that way and when I scan the barcode in it does pull up my information as a customer in Square POS, does that mean they are set to get their points?  Below is a photo of the cards I’m making.

I was working on something similar with my system but did not do the lazer engraving as you did.  I set up an account for myself, and entered a code to the Refrence Field.  Scanned this and yes it does pull up the Account but you may Need to add the Customer to the Sale.  I was getting mine to work scanning in a barcode that attached to the refrence ID, I just think I had to press Add Customer then Scan I believe once the Sale is added to the Customer it should pull up the Loyalty points.  Its been a few years since I tried something similar, and do not remember if I scanned then wrang up items or scanned an Item then scanned the Refrence Id barcode I made.  I stopped investigating this because Loyalty Points are good for the Next Sale and would not help for buy 12, get 1 free at time of sale or if they bought 6 before and 6 now, they would not get the free one till the next purchase.  So I stayed with my punch cards and not the Loyalty Program.  Try signing up for Loyalty yourself, scan the Barcode to the Refrence ID, then wait a little bit and do a Test Cash Sale with You as the customer.  See if your account has increased in Loyalty points.  That would be the best way to try it yourself.  There would be no cost if you did your test transaction as a Cash Sale.  Just remember after checking if Loyalty points increased etc, to Refund the Cash to keep it from effecting your accounting records.    Reason Other : Returned Items to Stock testing Loyalty Points or something similar.  By doing a Cash transaction test there will be no fees paid to square for that transaction that would not be refunded.

I am just amazed that the Lazer Barcode on silver actually works and that is a great idea.  Should last alot longer than the thermal barcodes on other stores loyalty cards.  Maybe you can make smaller ones for Key chains too ?

I do not think that will work, but I am not super familiar with how the add a customer to the sale.  maybe you can scan that barcode to auto fill in the phone number or name as that is what is tied to the rewards.

@TheRealChipA is there a way you thin this will work?

I have to admit I do not know. Logically it seems that if scanning the card ALSO attached the customer to the transaction, then yes loyalty will work as expected. The question is… does scanning also attach or does it just display customer info?

Situations like this are why I have my own test loyalty account. I’d recommend trying that first, if you can.

Otherwise, this sounds like a questions that a moderator should pass up to the Loyalty and/or POS teams. I’ll tag a few admins from a loyalty beta I was in. Maybe they can help.

Thanks for the replies, when I enter the barcode number in the reference ID and scan it in, it does pull up my name and all my info just like entering your phone number.  I just don't know if that would trigger the loyalty to get the reward points. I  will do a test sale later and hopefully it will work.

@Candlestore Thanks for the reply, I did get around to testing it to night and it works. Now to start engraving the  barcodes.  Our barcode scanner is sorta hit or miss reading the barcodes on the cards, but the camera in Square POS reads it just fine, i just hit the barcode scanner and then flip it around to front facing, it’s an extra step but it doesn’t take that long.

I can do the keychain cards also, but think I will stick with the regular card size.

@Candlestore I figured out if I invert the barcode it scans everytime with any scanner. Took a few tries but They scan now.

@rtfulk;

I may have to try this with my small lazer.  So far I have only been writting or cutting wood.  What size lazer and type of metal are you using for your cards?

@Candlestore  I have the  xtool f1 laser it’s a dual laser.  2 watt blue laser and 10 watt diode laser.  The business cards are just thin metal business cards.  I think they are like 7.00 for 100 of them.
