Square Appointments: You can now pause your subscription for up to 3 months

Given the changes your business may have experienced over the past few months, we’ve launched new settings and features to provide you with increased control over your Square account, including any active subscriptions you have. Back in March, we waived subscription fees for the months of March and April and later introduced the ability to pause your subscription for the month of May while retaining access to your account.

Earlier this week, we launched the ability to pause your subscription for up to 3 months, giving you a way to maintain access to your account and quickly resume your subscription when it makes sense for your business. Whether you wish to pause your subscription due to a temporary closure or because your business operates on a seasonal schedule, this will give you another option vs. unsubscribing.

How to pause your subscription

From your online Square Dashboard, visit Account & Settings > Business > Pricing & Subscriptions. Under Subscription Pricing, you’ll see all current subscriptions associated with your account. From here, you have the option to pause or unsubscribe from each of your active subscriptions. For more information, visit the Pause Subscription FAQs article.

To pause your Appointments subscription, click Manage next to Appointments for Teams. Select the option to Pause for up to 3 months and click Continue. You will be asked to select a resume date — either 1 month, 2 months or 3 months away — and can then click Confirm. Rest assured that you can unpause at any time and your appointments, staff and services will be saved.

To unsubscribe from Appointments, click Manage next to Appointments for Teams. Select the option to Unsubscribe. Next, you’ll see the option to remain subscribed to Team Plus for $35/month per location. Click to Continue and then Confirm on the next page.

Whether you choose to pause or unsubscribe from your subscription, you will continue to have access to paid Appointments for Teams features until the end of your current month’s billing cycle.

FAQs

What should I expect when pausing or unsubscribing from Square Appointments?

  • When you pause your paid Appointments subscription, you will retain access to free features similar to if you were a sole proprietor without multiple employees. Here are the key changes you will experience:
    • You will still have access and edit your online booking site
    • Clients will only be able to book appointments with one account owner
    • Your staff will be removed from your account and unable to login to their accounts (don’t worry — when you choose to resume your subscription they will automatically be added back)
    • You can view past and future appointments for staff members but they will appear as grey
    • You will not be able to reassign appointments to other staff members
  • When you unsubscribe from Appointments, you will lose access to all appointments, your booking site will be disabled, and notifications will not be sent. If you also decide to unsubscribe to Team Plus (included with your Appointments subscription), you will also lose access to employee permissions, roles, sales attribution, and advanced time tracking at all of your locations.

When I pause my subscription on or after the billing date, how does billing work?

  • You are able to pause ahead of the next month’s billing cycle. When you pause, you will have access to all paid features in your subscription until the end of the month.

Will I be charged a prorated fee upon unpausing my subscription?

  • You are able to resume your subscription mid-month and will regain access to all paid features in your subscription as soon as you resume. You will only be billed a prorated amount for the rest of the month and be charged your usual monthly fee starting on the 1st day of the next month.

Can I pause my free trial of Square Appointments?

  • No, at this time you can’t pause a free trial for a subscription service through Square. Pause is only available after you subscribe to a product.

Hello,

My payroll subscription is paused, but set to resume Aug 8. I want to pause it again, but the pause button is greyed out on the settings page. How can I "re-pause" my subscription without being charged?

Hi @goldenlinecoffe  - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community with your question👋

You can keep your Square Payroll account paused for up to 9 months. After 9 months, your subscription billing will automatically resume, but you can pause your account again if needed. Square Payroll will continue to file taxes on your behalf while your account is paused. Employees should not be paid outside of Square Payroll during this time.

If you are unable to pause your subscription again from your Square Dashboard, please get in touch with the Payroll Support Team here for further assistance.
