Discount Codes to be used when booking an appointment online

Discount Codes to be used when booking an appointment online

I'd like to offer a special for clients for booking online, but there is no option for them to enter in a discount code when booking their appointment. This would be an essential asset to business marketing, promotions and bookings. It's important to have pre-paid booking options, but if i want to offer a discount, there doesn't seem to be any way to do this

Discounts, Gift cards, and payment options for services

Talking with a rep yesterday I learned that the services (which I use for my healthcare practice linked to my online appointments via desktop), does not have the option for coupons, gift cards, or payment options like Afterpay.

I was trying so hard to figure it out because I could see the coupon I generated for "items" and on the square app (for manually entered appointments).

Please work on including these much needed features!! thank you.

Re: Square Appointments: Can my customers use a discount code when booking?

WOW, finding this thread really opened my eyes on how LONG this feature has been requested and Square done nothing... more than 4 years...

Not only discount coupons are essential for appointments but also there is no option for gift cards which are also sold by Square Online... but can't be used on Appointments? Doesn't make any sense right?

We sell skateboarding lessons, and a lot of people want to give them as gift cards for Christmas and Birthday, but they can't use the option to book online like everyone else, they need to call us and we have to block the slot with no payment, hoping they will show up to be able to charge the gift card or apply a discount in person when they arrive.

I am tired of waiting for this to change... the recent new updates in Square have been so useless, at least for my business, and this essential feature still missing... I feel like the only solution is to look into moving to another software...

Re: I have standard prices for my services, how do I change the price to reflect a discount?

Hi @janiced 👋

While it is possible to apply a discount to a service when charging a client in-person for a service using the Square Point of Sale app, it's currently not possible for your clients to use a discount or coupon code when booking an appointment using your Appointments booking site - this is being tracked as a feature request at this time.

Re: Is there a way to add coupon options for Appointments? We can't offer them with Appointments...

Currently there isn't a way for your customers to use coupons or promo codes for Appointments booked from your online Appointments booking site. We're tracking this feature request!

In the meantime if you use Square Marketing to send customers coupons you can apply those coupons at checkout from Appointments app. (And you can create a discount and apply that at checkout when your client arrives for their appointment.)

@NewUser587 @Skinrenascence I know promo codes are important to sellers like you who accept online bookings and I'm sorry this feature is not available yet. We'll continue to share your feedback with the Appointments team and hopefully we'll have a solution soon.

I have figured out how to do this - on the checkout, in house. The difference is - you have to have added the discount on a computer, not the apps. Square - NOT THE APPOINTMENT service?? is different. I don't know why I can't find a reference to the difference between SERVICE in appointments and ITEMS in square support, but I easily could just not have looked long enough. I don't have a lot of time. So, in the interest of getting things done, I have duplicated my SERVICES as ITEMS and then used whichever point of sale works at that moment. BUT, the discount, that you add, while logged in on a full normal, computer browser will show up on both the appointments and also the regular 'square' POS. So, when checking out the client on the appointments, you can check out the client on the appointments, apply the discount that was added on the ITEMS. In other words, the discounts can be used on ITEMS and APPOINTMENTS. I have seen a glitch though - you can add a discount via the app, but it doesn't seem to have an option for the location to be selected. So, for me it didn't show up. Whatever the default was, it wasn't where I needed it to show up. Until I logged into the computer and fixed the location to be the proper place I could not use it. Once it was fixed, it was there and easily to be used. I have no idea how much of a nightmare it will be for the accountant this year using the "ITEMS" and the "SERVICES" but it will have to be ok, because I'm doing it. I can't possibly be the only one.

Thanks for describing your set up too, I'm sure it will help other sellers @Lhmt

You're right, you can apply discounts to items in the Appointments app (you can also manage items from the Point of Sale app). To answer your questions:

  • When you create a discount in the app it'll automatically be associated with the location you're logged into. To make a discount available in multiple locations, go to the Item Library section of your online Square Dashboard > click Discounts. Click on a specific discount and you'll see the option able to apply the discount to multiple locations from the dropdown beside Locations.
  • The difference between Items and Services: Services are designed for a service -- so you can set a duration for the service, assign a specific service to a member of staff and your clients can book a service from your Appointments booking site if you use that feature. Items are designed for the sale of goods -- so you can track inventory, create categories, and apply sales taxes. Items can be sold online from a Square Online Store.

Sellers in this thread are looking for a way to provide promotional discounts when accepting Appointments through their online booking site and we'll continue to share that feedback with the Appointments team.

If you have any questions about your set up or if you're running into other glitches feel free to call our CS team and an Appointments Specialist will be able to help!

We need this implemented! Its 100% imperative for my business. Is this being worked on?

Thank you for letting us know this is important to your business @blankspaceak! I'm afraid I don't have an update for you right now. As soon as we have any news on this we'll post here to let you know.

Is it possible to set up a emailed discount for when a person set's an appointment with us? I would like for them to get the email after setting the appointment with the created discount coupon I created. I tried to do this and tested it but it didn't seem to work, but I may have made an error in set up. Is this possible and if so, how do I set it up properly?

I also really need this feature! Also allowing appointments to be prepaid via gift card would really help.

Hi @davidb77TLV, welcome and thanks for bring this up.

I went to check on this and we don't currently offer an automated email campaign that would send a discount to a customer who books an appointment. It sounds like the closest option we have is the "Welcome Email" campaign which kicks into gear after your customer completes their first payment at your business.

Out of curiosity, how would you plan to use this discount with Appointments and is there a specific segment of customers that you'd like it to focus on? I'd like to share some more insight with our Appointments and Marketing teams.

I also need this feature now. And I thought it was available but I realize now that it isn't. This is a major problem. I doubt it will help me in the short term but I really hope you are working on this feature and it is a high priority.

This is ridiculous not to have this already implemented. Massage & Bodyworkers and I am sure many others need this now. Time to switch to another service?
