Block Clients

Block Clients

We really need the ability to block certain clients from scheduling.  No just declining them. There are those finding ways around the decline by utilizing another email address etc. Thank you

Re: Block Clients

This forum doesn't seem to work getting this feature to the proper channels. It for the customer to feel like they are getting some where but they are not. Maybe start to go to twitter and call them out because at this point Square has shown that they are NOT for solo practitioners and their safety! It has been YEARS of this now. YEARS!!! 35 pages of this request up to this point.  Look into GlossGenius for booking if you are a esthetician or massage therapist.

Re: Block Clients

Agreed! This has been one of the features missing. I used to use an online booking system that allowed you to toggle or “turn off” booking ability for that client specifically. I typically don’t have an issue with clients booking online but when they are not a fit with my business anymore and can’t respect my time, it’s necessary. This is a feature that is needed, regardless of no show protection being in place.

Re: Block Clients - Status changed to: Has Product Insight

Hi all 👋 Apologies for the delayed response here but I have returned with some insight from the Square Appointments Product Team! I'll share what they've told me below:

"We don’t have a specific feature for this yet but it’s on our roadmap this year. H
owever, many of our Appointments Sellers are already enrolled in Risk Manager, and can use the Risk Manager’s “Block payment cards” feature to block buyers from booking if the Seller has prepayment or no-show turned on. Unfortunately, there isn’t a good way to block clients from booking if the Seller doesn’t use prepayment or no-show, but this is on our radar for this year."

To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators. In the meantime, keep an eye out for any updates, here, in our Seller Community. We appreciate your input! 🙂

Re: Appointments feature request: Block Clients

Hi @mikethebarber

Nothing new to report on this at the moment, but it seems to be gaining more interest lately so hopefully we can figure out a way to help with situations like this.

One workaround that you can use would be to switch the Reservation Guarantee in your Appointments Settings to "Business must accept or decline all appointment requests".

This allows you to have more control over who actually books up time slots on your calendar.

Re: Appointments feature request: Block Clients

Hey there @UrbanShaveSD

Thanks for sharing this feedback. I can totally see where this feature would be useful for difficult clients and I'll share your feedback with the Appointments team. I've moved this to the Feature Request board where we can track this request.

Being able to block both the phone number & email would be ideal! (You can do CC through Risk Manager now if they have purchased before). We usually send them a gentle break-up text message manually, but it would awesome to have that automated at the time of blocking.

@Innerglo There's always a chance the blocked individual can use a different name, but having a CC captured or pre-paid deposit as a precaution would be your best bet to recoup some money for your time if they show up, before sending them away. Requiring the CC also acts as another barrier on their end.

Negative reviews aren't always bad too - You definitely don't want a lot, but there's a ton of data in the industry that having at least a couple of negative reviews makes you (or a product) seem more believable. Take advantage of your provided option to reply to the negative review & set the story straight. Its happened to us and some of our amazing clients have read that negative review, found it to be completely unsubstantial and posted a 5-star review to help us out! Generally 1-star reviews tell you more about the reviewee rather than the establishment.

I agree with @hollythestylist - define your business policies/terms, have your clients read & agree to them, and stick to them - you'll always be able to lean on them when clients don't respect the boundaries you have laid out.

I'm not against a blocking feature.

But some of these issues people are mentioning here are borderline justifying police involvement with a no trespass issued.

If I explicitly tell someone not to come back to my business and they intentionally do, (Or otherwise harass / cause me monetary damage) we are going to be escalating a bit past blocking them on square.

So when I see the stories posted above of customers being told not to return and they attempt to, that's just a bit of a head scratcher to me as I can't imagine someone being that brave. That's all. This behavior is not normal to me nor have I witnessed it in our industry or area.

Hi! Any progress? I’d really appreciate having this feature to protect our business and our employees.

We have a client that is regularly tardy or no-shows. We have their card on file and today they locked it to avoid a charge. We’d like to ban them so it never happens again. We really need this feature to protect us from future issues.

Hey @essentialnails,

We do not have an update at the moment. When we do, we will be sure to announce it here. In the meantime, please check out this Best Answer from above.

Let me know if I can assist you with anything else.

I would like to restrict certain clients from booking appointments at my business.

Once again, Square fails to deliver basic functionality. This has been a request for years, and we're still getting the same canned response that they're "working on it." Does anyone have recommendations for a good platform to switch to? We're about done with Square.

Please add this feature pretty please! As a massage therapist we often get stalkers and people with little to no boundaries that have ulterior motives for the therapist during their sessions. We need a ban/block button made available for persistent clients that think just because they are paying you, it’s ok. Most other sites have this feature available.

Thank you for sharing your interest in this feature @Yogabypia I would like to invite you to this Feature Request so you can Like and share your feedback on why this feature is needed.

P.S. Welcome to the Seller Community

Yes massage therapists are often times targets for people that have ulterior motives for their session, motives that have nothing to do with massage. these particular individuals book appointments to gain access to your time and think that just because they are paying you are obligated to work on them and that’s far from the truth. We need a block or ban button option for each customer.

I own a bra store. You can imagine the issues we can run into with creeps. Usually they call (and we block the number) or they email (and we ignore/block). But with appointments, it would be helpful to weed out the 'scam/spam' appointments. There are a NUMBER of creeps who book with MULTIPLE bra stores around the country. literally at the same time. Its annoying AF to have to remember to then decline. (we all talk to each other and literally have PHONE NUMBER lists of these creeps that we share as they call around the country.).

Also, ever since square put the CC part behind the paywall, the number of 'fake' appointments has skyrocketed. But no where near enough to justify paying the monthly fee. I'd have to pay $29/month to MAYBE get back $100/year... that math doesn't wash. Some of these are literally bots... even just adding a Captcha or simple math problem (I had to add that to my 'contact us' form on my website) goes very far in blocking bots.

With my line of business, repeatedly declining their appointment sets us up for 'being discriminatory' complaints. Like... I want to block you from booking because you never show up, you've repeatedly tried to return worn items, you use our time and never purchase, your nasty, you're a creep who has made lewd comments, or you're just an **bleep**. I could care less how you identify or whatever, that has nothing to do with it.
