Block Clients

Block Clients

We really need the ability to block certain clients from scheduling.  No just declining them. There are those finding ways around the decline by utilizing another email address etc. Thank you

Re: Block Clients

This forum doesn't seem to work getting this feature to the proper channels. It for the customer to feel like they are getting some where but they are not. Maybe start to go to twitter and call them out because at this point Square has shown that they are NOT for solo practitioners and their safety! It has been YEARS of this now. YEARS!!! 35 pages of this request up to this point.  Look into GlossGenius for booking if you are a esthetician or massage therapist.

Re: Block Clients

Agreed! This has been one of the features missing. I used to use an online booking system that allowed you to toggle or “turn off” booking ability for that client specifically. I typically don’t have an issue with clients booking online but when they are not a fit with my business anymore and can’t respect my time, it’s necessary. This is a feature that is needed, regardless of no show protection being in place.

Re: Block Clients - Status changed to: Has Product Insight

Hi all 👋 Apologies for the delayed response here but I have returned with some insight from the Square Appointments Product Team! I'll share what they've told me below:

"We don’t have a specific feature for this yet but it’s on our roadmap this year. H
owever, many of our Appointments Sellers are already enrolled in Risk Manager, and can use the Risk Manager’s “Block payment cards” feature to block buyers from booking if the Seller has prepayment or no-show turned on. Unfortunately, there isn’t a good way to block clients from booking if the Seller doesn’t use prepayment or no-show, but this is on our radar for this year."

To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators. In the meantime, keep an eye out for any updates, here, in our Seller Community. We appreciate your input! 🙂

Re: Appointments feature request: Block Clients

Hi @mikethebarber

Nothing new to report on this at the moment, but it seems to be gaining more interest lately so hopefully we can figure out a way to help with situations like this.

One workaround that you can use would be to switch the Reservation Guarantee in your Appointments Settings to "Business must accept or decline all appointment requests".

This allows you to have more control over who actually books up time slots on your calendar.

Re: Appointments feature request: Block Clients

Hey there @UrbanShaveSD

Thanks for sharing this feedback. I can totally see where this feature would be useful for difficult clients and I'll share your feedback with the Appointments team. I've moved this to the Feature Request board where we can track this request.

Most of your workarounds are not effective or practical. I understand the concerns from square about the block feature possibly being abused and used to discriminate against ordinary people. We have recurrent no shows who lock their cards and never end up paying the no show fee. We can issue an invoice, but they will never pay. Maybe a feature that stops anyone with an unpaid invoice from booking an appointment can be a suitable compromise.

Our Product Team is currently tracking use cases for this feature (it's in their roadmap but has no release date yet) and we have shared updates on the Feature Request thread inside our Ideate Boards.  I invite everyone on this thread to jump there to Like and Comment to provide visibility to our Product Team.

Important: When commenting make sure to provide the details of how this feature will help your business succeed (how would you use it and what you expect from it).

I hope this information is helpful! @Tsifford @Nailphoria @dlass @AnewSkin2021

Agreed with the above replies - We need a way to prevent specific users from booking appointments. Particularly for the Service Industry where its not uncommon to recommend that a client see another provider perhaps in more specialized niche.
Overall, these users are few & far between so manually approving each & every appointment is a lot of hassle & not scaleable.

Perhaps a simpler path forward would be rolling out a standard Blocked Group that we can add specific users too that are not able to proceed with scheduling appointments and see a standardized message on the Booking page.

I don't see this option.. How do I get it????

It just makes TOO MUCH sense tho, right?  Square's like, "Lemme charge for this now but not make any client-positive changes or listen to our clients who have been ASKING (begging) for this for YEARS."  Welcome though to the makes-too-much-sense club.

This is ridiculous, we've all been asking for this feature for years! I'm a body piercer and every piercer I know that uses square wants this option to ban a client from future bookings.  Please get them to make this happen.

We are also in desperate need of this feature. Reasons below:

1. We have had a few clients do chargeback on their cancellation fees, and we don't want them to be able to book again.

2. We have had a few clients no-show multiple appointments, and our cancellation fee is only a fraction of what the appointment can actually bring in (imagine a $20 cancellation fee on an hour long appointment where some people spend 1k)

3. Some clients have made inappropriate remarks to staff (safety issue)

4. Some people are just awful.

Side-note:

This is the first time I'm hearing of blocking cards in risk manager. If the card is not saved to the customer file, does it have the ability to look up transactions in peoples' customer files to block them?

Hey, @piercertiffany I have moved your post to our Feature Request board so you can stay updated as soon as our Product Team provides an update here.

@JJ_ , This issue really needs to get taken care of soon. I recently found out that cards can be blocked from Risk Manager, and was hoping this could help. Unfortunately, I found out that only cards that have been charged can be blocked, which is unhelpful with clients who repeatedly book and cancel appointments.

Something else to mention to the team: Piercers (especially those who do genital piercings) sometimes need to fire clients because the clients have put the piercer’s safety at risk. Unfortunately, this happens more often than people think.

Square needs to realize that this is more than a "that client was annoying" thing and that it's an actual safety risk for this feature to not be available to people in the personal care service industry. Square was first marketed to small businesses, and small businesses do what they can to keep their employees safe. We don't all have large enough teams that we can have someone cross-check a long list of banned clients whenever someone books.
