Feature Request: Add Modifiers or Options to Services

Feature Request: Add Modifiers or Options to Services

PLEASE give the ability to add modifiers to services. This one omission is what keeps Square Appointments from being the perfect tool for my business.

Creating a separate service for each wanted modifier does not work, because just like items, certain modifiers only apply to certain services.

Being able to create modifiers for services, and possibly a time duration to each modifier to be added to the service time would be perfect. For example, as a vehicle detailing business:

SERVICE: Premium Detail (2 hrs)

Modifiers:

  • Hand wax +$10 (+20min)
  • Sealant +$20 (+20min)
  • Fabric Guard +$20/+$30/+$40 (+20min)
  • etc.

As you can see, having a $20 fabric guard as a standalone service does not make sense, as it can not be booked as a standalone service. It's an add-on modifier to the Premium Detail. And perhaps I have another detail package that includes the fabric guard in the price, so that modifier doesn't necessarily apply to every service.

I can see this same concept working flawlessly with many other industries as well, such as a hair salon. The service could be a haircut, and an addon modifier could be "shampoo & blow dry". But a shampoo & blow dry is not a standalone service- it only works as a modifier to a haircut service.

Not only would this functionality tie in perfectly with the way items are already setup within Square, but it allows us to remember all the upsale and crossale options for our services, thereby increasing revenue for both the merchant as well as Square.

Re: How do I get add ons available to book with a service

@Archilaveronica You can add variations to a Service, but there isn't a way to set up Add-Ons I'm afraid. It's a feature request we're tracking in this post.

In the meantime, I hope you can use variations to create different combinations of your services!

Re: Feature Request: Add Modifiers to Services

@AROBINSON we're with you, modifiers for services would be fantastic!

However, until this featuere comes around we've figured out a workaround.

Here's how it would look for you:

• Create your main services: "Premium Detail", "Standard Detail", etc.

• Then create more services: "+Hand Wax", "+Sealant", "+Fabric Guard 1", "+Fabric Guard 2", "+Fabric Guard 3", etc

When booking an appointment, it would look like this:

Mr. Joe Black

Thursday, Feb 7, 2019

9:00 AM-11:40 AM (2 hr, 40 mins)

Booked by You on 2/6/2019

SERVICES & ITEMS

Premium Detail (2 hours) $100.00

+Hand Wax (20 minutes) $20.00

+Sealant (20 minutes) $20.00

Total $140.00

@Square Where is the progress with this? Hundreds of people have been requesting this feature for services and still nothing. It would be one of the most convenient features for appointments.

YES! YES! YES!

Been 2 years of waiting for this and it would be an amazing feature.  After continuing to wait for an update on this function, I am strongly considering another service.  This is absolutely ridiculous it is taking this long for a very simple update!

This is 100% something I’m looking for in my business. We really need the ability to have service modifier sets add to a service duration as others have already requested.

With a detailing business, online scheduling is currently a bit confusing to our customers and I am only able to use it for a select few of our “entry level” services. The provided answer of having a bunch of little services is a workaround for the checkout counter, however, it would be absolute chaos for our customers trying to schedule online as I can’t do fabric protectant as a standalone service as one example provided as it wouldn’t really make sense and our customers would likely be more frustrated than not attempting to figure out what goes with what. So unfortunately we currently have to use a placeholder for other services and call them back to figure out how to schedule for their specific needs.

I am new to square and the fact that I cannot have add ons for my spa is almost a deal breaker, I may have to go back to my old booking site because for example when someone books a facial they have the option to add aromatherapy, cbd, microdermabrasion, hydro jelly mask all different prices and timings. I cannot create every possible variation for someone who may decide to choose more than one of these options.

I would like very much to do something similar to this for our Little Wedding Chapel, to offer streaming & video recording as a new (for us) value-added option to specific ceremony packages.

The interface, text and workflow make it feel like this should be there and so it's rather frustrating to find that it still isn't. This page says "You are also able to add variations and modifiers to your services. For example, charging less for short vs. long hair services." When I click Services from the Appointments page and click into a service the modifiers are there and I can check them, just like I can for Item modifiers, but they don't show up when I try to book an appointment.

Variations work fine, but I'm already using them to allow for deposits or payment in full and I'm struggling to find a workaround that doesn't make the selections menu so unwieldy that it turns customers away.

The only available and working solution I could come up with (a SHOP page using Weebly) is costing us both money and sales because we have to send customers through a second transaction process after they have already booked with us. I truly fail to understand how a feature like this has been on the request list for more than two years, with dozens if not hundreds of customers asking for this, and still nothing.

I agree with the others. Please add functionality to this feature. It appears you are working toward integrating modifiers for services, but it just doesn't actually work when trying to book (after you've created and applied the modifiers to the services.)

Square, this is nuts. I understand that you don't have to accommodate every feature request. However, you permit us to CREATE and SAVE the modifiers! Why are we prompted to save something that does not show up on our site? You clearly have written code into your end of the software to accept this information, but aren't letting us use it.

I will research another option for booking appointments for my massage business. I also can't add a bunch of similar services and hope that my clients have the patience to sift through them.

I need the same feature people have been asking for for 2 years.  I need to make modifiers available for customers to chose when selecting a service while booking an appointment online.

When using the square appointments app on my phone I can see and add the modifiers so that works if I'm face to face with a customer, but a customer should have the same visibility and flexibility when booking an appointment themselves.  Without that, it leads to a lot of discussion about pricing when they arrive.

I made the switch to Squarespace by Acuity for my massage practice and I couldn’t be happier with all of the features and options they offer. Don’t even care that it’s $25/mo it’s worth it.

I absolutely agree with you.  This is a drastic need for Square and it is really pitiful that they cannot do it!

March 5 received an email about new features.  I was so excited that "MAYBE" this would be finally addressed.  NOPE!  Color schemes?!? Order fees? Common really?!?  This has "work arounds" however you have to create a completely impossible layout for customers to have them modify an order.  I am SO drastically disappointed that with so many requests for this it is "still under review".  What they heck?!?  YOUR ARE FAILING US. YOU ARE LOSING BUSINESS AS ARE WE.
