Feature Request: Add Modifiers or Options to Services

Feature Request: Add Modifiers or Options to Services

PLEASE give the ability to add modifiers to services. This one omission is what keeps Square Appointments from being the perfect tool for my business.

Creating a separate service for each wanted modifier does not work, because just like items, certain modifiers only apply to certain services.

Being able to create modifiers for services, and possibly a time duration to each modifier to be added to the service time would be perfect. For example, as a vehicle detailing business:

SERVICE: Premium Detail (2 hrs)

Modifiers:

  • Hand wax +$10 (+20min)
  • Sealant +$20 (+20min)
  • Fabric Guard +$20/+$30/+$40 (+20min)
  • etc.

As you can see, having a $20 fabric guard as a standalone service does not make sense, as it can not be booked as a standalone service. It's an add-on modifier to the Premium Detail. And perhaps I have another detail package that includes the fabric guard in the price, so that modifier doesn't necessarily apply to every service.

I can see this same concept working flawlessly with many other industries as well, such as a hair salon. The service could be a haircut, and an addon modifier could be "shampoo & blow dry". But a shampoo & blow dry is not a standalone service- it only works as a modifier to a haircut service.

Not only would this functionality tie in perfectly with the way items are already setup within Square, but it allows us to remember all the upsale and crossale options for our services, thereby increasing revenue for both the merchant as well as Square.

Re: How do I get add ons available to book with a service

@Archilaveronica You can add variations to a Service, but there isn't a way to set up Add-Ons I'm afraid. It's a feature request we're tracking in this post.

In the meantime, I hope you can use variations to create different combinations of your services!

Re: Feature Request: Add Modifiers to Services

@AROBINSON we're with you, modifiers for services would be fantastic!

However, until this featuere comes around we've figured out a workaround.

Here's how it would look for you:

• Create your main services: "Premium Detail", "Standard Detail", etc.

• Then create more services: "+Hand Wax", "+Sealant", "+Fabric Guard 1", "+Fabric Guard 2", "+Fabric Guard 3", etc

When booking an appointment, it would look like this:

Mr. Joe Black

Thursday, Feb 7, 2019

9:00 AM-11:40 AM (2 hr, 40 mins)

Booked by You on 2/6/2019

SERVICES & ITEMS

Premium Detail (2 hours) $100.00

+Hand Wax (20 minutes) $20.00

+Sealant (20 minutes) $20.00

Total $140.00

@denitaviola Have you checked Dashboard settings to check if the modifier set is selected for your services?

Visit Items > Modifiers. Select apply to items next to the set to edit.

+1

Also looking for modifiers to services for online booking.   We have 1 service with three variations, and would like to add modifiers.

Thanks for adding your voice here in support of this feature request, @LBP! We will continue to update everyone here on this thread when we have new information to share on release.

Stay tuned!

im looking into square appointments. my service needs more questions to be asked to customer than just service and price. I need to ask certain questions that customer can select and others that they can type in. i tried playing around with it but when i make item modifiers it doesnt show up in appointments? TIA

Hey @mkin and welcome to the Seller Community! I've merged your post with an existing thread to keep all these feature requests in one place. You will need to use a variation instead of a modifier. Thank you!

There are so many issues with the Appointments app - mainly because there are two separate development teams - and this is why we ended up with two apps - instead of integrating appointments completely into the POS app. It's causing many issues - like no open tickets, no POS interface when adding items, and modifiers for both cost and a time amount are completely absent. It's like the appointment "team" grew up in caves and didn't know that market research with service industry companies was probably a good thing to do... Sheesh! And the appointments app has been around for some time now!

Unfortunately, we're now looking outside of Square for a proper service appointment system. Square's non-responsiveness to fixing or upgrading is almost as invisible as their tech support. Shrug.

I am using square appointments to book party reservations for my business. I have add-on items that can be booked during this party reservation such as additional pizza, goodie bags, etc. I see the modifier but this does not apply to my situation at all. Is there another way I am not thinking of? I have noticed this being a request going back a few years based on the discussion board but the last post was mid-2019 so I am not sure if this has been included and I am not seeing it.

Thanks for question about your appointments, @megs83.

I'm going to merge your post into the feature request about adding add-ons to a service item. You mentioned that modifiers would not work for your situation at all. Could you elaborate a little more on what that is? Additional details about that would be very useful to our Product teams so they know what our Sellers are looking to do with service add-ons.

Hello square community! I’m new to square and have had trouble making a seamless checkout for my customers on my booking site. I Use square to offer 3 hour art classes priced at $150 for the first student + $25 for each additional additional guest. I created a modifier set to add on my booking site so the customer can select how many guests would accompany them but it doesn’t appear as an option when I go to book a test appointment. Also I would like to provide a choice of 4-5 class projects a week at no extra cost that can be selected after choosing the initial service. For example

Mobile art class -$150

week 1 projects

       - project 1

       -project 2

       ect.

Initially I set this up by creating category labeled week one projects then adding each project as an item at $0.00. I also added the same additional student modifier  set to each item to see if it would appear and still no luck. I had the same problem with the resource feature. I used the resources feature for parents to identify what room they’d like the instructor to set up during mobile classes and made it required for checkout and that doesn’t appear as well. If there’s anything to do to make these features appear so customers can choose exactly what they want when they booking their classes I’d love to know!
