Square for Retail: Adding a store credit to a customer

Has there been an update to the Square retail app or gonna be in the future to add a store credit to a customers profile on it? It would so be helpful.

Re: How to give customer store credit/voucher

Trying to give a customer a complementary $25 for hardships.  I have the Advanced Accounting so I can use gift cards.  I would like to use a 100% discount promo code to pay for this gift card but the only option is Paypal or Stripe.  How can I give a customer store credit??

If they lose the e mail, you cannot track it and you are screwed. You also can't run continued totals and it confuses the customer.

I have one year of experience in trying to make these options work. They cause further issues and lose you customers and cause issues if are ever to be audited.

Been dealing with this for a year and no promise of a change only options that cause further issues. I am done.

I own a Resale Store and have tried their work around options with massive issues! It is costing me time, money and customers. Have you found a solution? Help! I live Square in every way but I am ready to find a different company. My patience is up.

Square has no intention of making this a feature.  They make money by not providing this feature.  If you absolutely need this feature you should leave Square now.

I disagree, This could easily be built as a paid app like the Loyalty app.

I totally agree but people have been asking for this feature since 2017.  Square could implement this today if they wanted to but they don't want to.

Square has not provided a solution for this problem and it beyond frustrating.

So there is a workaround, kind of.  Has to be done on iOS app and can't be done on the browser version.  First you select or add a customer from the directory.  Then you tap the three dots next to their name. Select "Send Message".  At the bottom, select Add Coupon.  Add the amount you want to refund and that's the easiest way to do it.  Of course this will have no impact on reconciling your inventory or past GL entries but hey, considering Square wants to charge us for every little thing we do...this is at least an option for you all to use.  Cheers!

I’m a hairstylist. One of my clients prepaid for haircuts during the COVID shutdown so he’s got 3 or 4 haircuts in credit. How would this work in this circumstance? Would he have credit leftover or would I have to apply a new eGC each time?

Hi there @Paulyester!

Someone recently shared a suggestion that could help with the "pay it forward" concept here, and I wanted to share the thread with you, just in case this is still something you're looking to be able to accomplish
