Label Printing: Scan and Print Barcode Labels

Label Printing: Scan and Print Barcode Labels

We are a retailer that has over 6,000 SKUs. We have asked for some time if there is an option that can be incorporated into the POS that would allow for us to "Scan and Print". With tons of new items coming in every week, we would love a better option to print out shelf labels, with the easiest option being to scan the new item and print immediately.

THANKS!

Re: Can Square generate SKU numbers?

Hello @GlacierLandings, welcome to the Seller Community!

This is a great question I'm sure other businesses have. While Square doesn't have a way to auto generate SKU's Shopventory does! Once your products are entered into Shopventory you can run a task where the software will generate a SKU for any item without an assigned SKU.

I hope this helps!

Create codes using Excel and Word.  I just can't figure out if Square uses QR Codes.

When you use the import and print function of your Dymo label printer, what size label and what label set-up type do you use?  For example, do you add any text to show the price or description of your items?  I've been playing around with printing barcode labels and I'd love to know what works for you so I have a frame of reference!  Thanks!!

I use VHS labels (bought from LabelValue). They fit nicely on our business cards, so we just use those as our tags for the clothing we sell. I put price at top, size or item name in middle, and the barcode at the bottom.

We have the 2 tray dymo printer, so I can use 2 label sizes at once... I wish there was a 3 or 4 tray printer. But 2 is better than 1. And yes, there is room to squeeze other information on there with a barcode, even their smallest sizes. I buy from discount thermal labels . com... They work just fine, despite them saying that you have to use dybo brand labels.

We print variable data labels all the time. For instance a bag of something that is priced by weight. There are more expensive programs out there that will interface with a scale, but, standing there by a scale and manually typing the price and weight into a template, then pressing print works enough for me.

Can you provide us with comments from those using the Dymo 450 bar code printer?  Which scanner works best with the Dymo 450?

@kipshane @JeanHoeg - Check out this thread for more details. Also, feel free to "@" mentioned a seller to get their attention. 🙂

We use the Socket Mobile CHS 7Ci. Sometimes we have to repair the scanner with our iPad, but other than that it works fine.

I created a sku number for my product J190, created the barcode J190 in DYMO but when I scan it, it is ringing up my item as $1.90 instead of the listed price in my inventory.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

@makingitcrafty - I'd suggest using UPC-A SKUs for your products.

I would like to have a scanner to use for check out but I have a large amount of products that we assemble ourselves so there are no sku codes or barcodes on them. What are the alternatives that can be used? And does anyone know about creating and printing your own barcodes?
