POS/Retail features needed: Sub-Categories/Departments, alternate SKUs?!

We are a retail wine & liquor store and 2 big issues we've noticed as we transitioned to this new system are the missing capabilities to: #1 split categories into sub-categories for better organization & data reporting, and #2 no options to add alternate SKUs to an item.

#1 Ex. We have different departments (Wine or Liquor) then within those we'd like to be able to break it down. Liquor --> Whiskey vs. Vodka vs. Rum etc. Wine --> Champagne vs. Merlot vs. Rose etc. That then helps us look at reports to see overall within each department, which categories sell more then others. It also helps us better organize our products!

#2 Ex. We have the same exact product come in, but the company has printed a new label which has a new (different) barcode. We have both bottles in stock (old label & new label) but right now products can only have 1 usable barcode? So the new bottle comes up when scanned as "not in system".

@WWS I am with you on this feature request! what my business has done for a workaround on the multi sku is created a variation of the master item with the same price of the original item, im on Square for retail so im not sure if you have that option in the regular version.

@kellyj @ElisabethB or anyone from Square - I have not seen any updates on this topic. We can't be the only people who need sub-categories and/or department options for Retail.

We'd also love better sorting options in the items, and better reporting/exporting options, as there is really not a lot of customization available. Our old system had a "Zero movement" report to tell us what isn't moving over a certain time frame.

Honestly Square is so modern I'm extremely surprised many of these updates haven't been made yet for your customers! We'd even be willing to pay a little more each month to get access to some of these conveniences!

I hear you and understand your need. I have no updates at this time in regards to sub-categories or a "Zero Movement Report" I will definitely pass your feedback over to our product team for their visibility and consideration when working on future updates.
