How to change personal name not business name?

I need help with this too, but the only option I can find under "Personal Information" is to change my business name. I have a typo and would like to correct It without having to start over with my online shop, etc.

Unfortunately you aren’t able to edit the legal name you used to activate your Square account. If you'd like to fix a typo with your activation name, you'll need to create a new Square account.

 

Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way.

I completely agree.  Obviously its time for a change.  I can't believe this has been going on for so long with no attempts to correct the problem.  

So you are telling me after 2 years there still is not a way to change our legal name with square? I got married and was able to change my last name on everything...now I want to get the square debit card but that will be the only thing with my old name on it...it's absolutely ridiculous...and obviously not very hgih priotity for Square since people have been asking for this for years...

I'm very sorry that there isn't a way to change your account name, or edit your name before ordering a Square Card. We are working on a solution but I don't have a timeline for when it will be in place.

 

If you would like to order a Square Card you could consider opening a new Square account, but I know that's not always practical if you've had your account for a while. I'll share your experience with the team so we can highlight how important this is. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

I'm right there with you. It's so frustrating because I really don't want to see my ex-husband's name (I've been divorced for two years). I've been waiting patiently for a fix but it doesn't seem it will happen. I know there has to be a way for customer service to go in and manually edit the last name. Maybe Square just doesn't want to add to their payroll by hiring a support person to fulfill all these requests. [insert rolling eye emoji]

I have been with Square for years. I set up the account with my former legal name. Why does Square refuse to allow me to change my name to my correct legal name? I have been divorced for over ten years and was easily able to change ALL MY DOCUMENTENTATION, including my passport, drivers license, bank accounts and social security card but not my last name, with supported documentation, with Square. Seriously????

 

I was in an abusive relationship with my ex-husband, yet every time I log in my POS / or Square account I have to see his last name. Why is Sqaure's approach to this so archaic and ludicris?

 

 

I am disappointed also that this is not an easy solution. The person who opened our account is no longer with our organization. Her name still appears on the purchase orders. When I send a PO to a vendor, the incorrect contact name is on the PO. Makes no sense. It should not be this hard to change the main contact name or at the very least, select an authorized user to appear on the purchase orders. 

Square is refusing to respond to their customers. It's been YEARS yet they refuse to make the simple change or even acknowledge their paying customer. 

I finally decided to add a second account so I could have one in my legal name. Wouldn't you know I get a error saying my identity can't be confirmed! I am using my name as it appears on my social security card and Drivers license. 

I don't want to put in my old address because I am afraid it will take me back to where I am now with an account in my non legal name! Any suggestions?

I'm so sorry for the frustration @Incrediblebchwd. I've just asked our CS team to take a look and they'll follow up with you directly by email. 

 

If you are using your existing account you can update your business and tax information if you haven't already from the Account & Settings section of your Dashboard. (The name you used to sign up for Square isn't visible to your customers.)

 

We're still working to improve this experience, I really appreciate your patience. 

Whether or not the name is visible to customers, which reading here, doesn't seem to be true (?), this is not acceptable.  I have an issue where i'm using Square for a non-profit and officers change all the time, which means our old officer is still the owner on this account.  Luckily i was able to have access to the email....please fix asap, as this si 2019 for goodness sakes!!  Thank you
