How to change personal name not business name?

How to change personal name not business name?

I need help with this too, but the only option I can find under "Personal Information" is to change my business name. I have a typo and would like to correct It without having to start over with my online shop, etc.

Re: How to change personal name not business name?

@CKinkade Sorry for the late reply here,

Unfortunately you aren’t able to edit the legal name you used to activate your Square account. If you'd like to fix a typo with your activation name, you'll need to create a new Square account.

Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way.

Hi @wickee and welcome to the Community!

If the old account owner isn't with the company, you will want to make a new account anyways because there's a lot of actions that only the account owners will be able to take on the account or with our Support team.

Seriously, No, square needs to make it so we can change our names. Period. Your discrimination mainly against woman. Serious action about this needs to happen at this point..

So from what I am reading - I cannot change my legal name since I got married and changed it on all of my legal documents.  How does square deal with the legal ramafications of this? Can I have someone from the square team respond? I would like to know what square has in place to deal with the legal ramafications of this.  Thanks!

They haven’t addressed this in years. I ended up switching to PayPal and it’s been great! I’ve even changed my name twice and they were fast and allowed it. 🙂

I loved using Square for my business but ultimately this one issue became the deal-breaker for me. I don’t want my ex-husbands name associated to me anywhere!

How does paypal work? Do they have a chip reader or swiper? It's pretty insulting to us that Square refuses to address and fix this issue.  I'm definitely interested in another user friendly option.

@PureElec Yes they have both. They are very similar to Square. Way back in 2016, I researched both and even used both but eventually decided on Square because it seemed to be the most used and familiar with all my customers.

Earlier this year I made the decision to switch once and for all solely because of the name thing. I got sick and tired of seeing my old last name and it doesn't even match my bank or tax records anymore so it just seemed like I shouldn't be using it. I had NO desire to open an entirely new Square account with and start from scratch so I just switched back to PayPal and ramped that up full-time and now it's all I use. Sadly, Square is losing some good customers over this.

It makes no sense why they aren't able to address it after it's been an issue for so many people for so many years.

Hi there, than you very much for this question. I'd like to tackle it head on here.  Your information as far as authenticating your identity and creation - at this point - is still tied to the name and information you opened your Square account with, at the time of inception.

Your tax forms/ID's etc can all be edited in your Tax Form Section to match all business information- but the identity origination is where we do not have the ability to change it at this time.

This also affects a few services like Square Card. We're aware, and although it may not seem like these requests are falling on deaf ears, I can assure you they are not. We're actively looking into this and working on a solution given the painful situations this often puts our Sellers in.

I just want to add to this conversation, as I also need to change the name of the person associated with the account. I work for a non-profit and the person who originally set up our square is no longer with the organization. I really want to just update our account and NOT have to start all over with a new account...

Since this has been an issue for what appears to be years, is there any anticipated solution for 2019? Otherwise, I'm inclined to move everything to Paypal and no longer use square as this will be problem again for us when our officers and staff change...

Thank you,

Agreed.  Can't believe how long I've been getting these emails.

@LMM We don't have any updates at this time. We know this is a pain point for a lot of sellers, so we'll continue to track this request.
