How can I add a negative modifier?

How can I add a negative modifier?

I want to add a modifier that will decrease the price. How can I do this?

One idea is to create an item with multiple prices. Say widget for $100. Create additional price points for how payments are broken down. Payment 1 $25; 2 $25; etc.... Or leave each as variable for manual payments. You could send invoices or try open tickets to capture the unpaid amounts.

all are workarounds but maybe it will work for you. Good luck

@LovesThrift Hello LovesThrift I am happy to hear that square is the right choice for you. "Pretty Frustrating" is an understatement when it comes to accounting and POS programming of any business. However, I cannot see how including a simple add or subtract feature would make the Square register any more difficult to operate. For you this works. For me I am more frustrated than ever that square will not add advanced features for those who are comfortable with implementing them. They could leave to basic set-up the same for those like yourself who find comfort in the turn-key boiler plate set-up. I wish you all the best in your business.
Cheers.

I could get by with Discount Codes if there was a way to modify the Discount Code icon/graphic. Is there? I'd like to have custom graphics for different level discounts. Please tell me you can do this and how...

Square

There isn't currently a way to customize the Discount icons, @FOTR. Definitely see how that would useful. I'll update here should any of the requests become available in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

How can I credit someone's card for a returned item?

Square

@3dogmum - You'll just need to process a refund. 👍

This would be a very useful additon for our donut shop.  I am currently using three price buttons.  One for 1-5 donuts are 85 cent each.  6-11 are 80 cent each, and 12+ are 9.00.  It would be much simpler to have one price button and 2 modifers (-5, -10).  All the work arounds presented here are way to time consumeing.  If I switch to square it has to be fast and simple at the register.

@anyaviolins, that's an interesting question, and I was trying to think of a way you could manage that by using open tickets, but those require all payments at one time. You might be able to do that with Square's invoicing functionality, but since they jacked the pricing up on invoices, I stopped using that function in Square and I go through my accounting software instead.

If I were you, I would use my accounting software to maintain the account balance for these transactions that you're allowing installment payments on. Then, each time you accept a payment (via cash, credit card, or whatever), record the payment in your software under the customer's account, which reduces their balance and keeps you informed of who still owes and how much they owe.

This is a two step process, so I know it would be a lot easier if Square could do it all. I would just remind you that Square is simply a merchant card processing service that also provideds a fairly good POS system. If you want all that functionality rolled into one system, I'm thinking you might need to look at other options.

I would like this feature. I own a bar, all of our liquor prices are based on a 2 oz. pour. We have modifiers set up to increaseight themail price for cocktails, but we would like to also be able to have a modifier that lowers the price for a 1.5 oz. shot.

Negative modifiers, please!

Would a negative number in that box create any actual problems?  It was probably restricted to only take positive numbers because the programmer could not think of a reason why anyone wants to subtract a component of a standard product.  But there are thousands of examples where you prefer to set it up as:

"cheeseburger, with the option of leaving out the cheese and decreasing the price"  rather than "hamburger with the option of adding the cheese and increasing the price".

Seriously, people, what's so hard about this?
