The discount option currently applies tax to the NET amount of the sale. We take deposits on custom orders without tax. When time to ring the final payment, we key the original price of the custom item, apply an "Applied Down Payment" discount, but the tax then is incorrect as it is calculated only on the net amount. How can that be resolved? ~ Stephanie
I'm trying to switch to Square for Restaurants and am finding the lack of some of these basic capabilities very frustrating. I too need a negative $ modifier. I'm guessing the fact that this request has been around for 4 years means I shouldn't hold my breath waiting for this feature to be added.
Looking for this feature as well. THIS IS THE ONLY THING stopping me from switching to square completely. I sell by the weight and I need to deduct tare (without fooling with scale) and I have tried fooling around with setting up discounts, but that doesn't even work because you can only use a particular discount one time. I even tried setting up a rule (use this discount on this item) and because I sell by weight, the discount MULTIPLIES when set to automatically apply. There is no work around for this and that is why I am still paying for restaurant software and cant' switch to square. There are so many easy functions that would be so helpful and square cannot seem to implement after years of the same requests. How can the same discount not be used more than once on a single transaction in 2021? This is mind boggling.
I see how modifiers work, adding options that can bump up the price. However, when I enter an negative value for option price (something that makes the whole item cheaper) it wont let me.
Hi @Joblue! Thanks for posting. @Goldneye is right, this is a feature request, but his workaround may really benefit you. You can also look into automatic discounts for certain item groups to better help you out.

Yes, I am looking for this feature as well for Tare. It seems crazy we have to do it in the scale each transaction rather than having a negative modifier. Let me start a price at a negative weight please!!
We need this for tare pricing for items per pound. Please Square add this feature so we can start prices at a negative weight not having to change it on the scale each time!
