Feature Request: Customize category icons, and add photos to categories like items

Would LOVE to be able to add a picture to each Category I create. I see we can add a picture for items but not for categories. Could you send a request for a future update for this? Would make our Square Register screen so much nicer and prettier. Thank you.

I know this thread has been around the sun a couple of times now. I've gone ahead and reached out to our Item Library Product Manager for an update. Currently this request is on the backlog and we're not expecting it to be implemented anytime soon. I understand this isn't the answer a lot of sellers want to hear, but I want to be as transparent as possible.

There are a lot of factors that come into play when prioritizing feature requests - comments like all of yours on this thread are one of the big inputs our product teams take into consideration. However, there are other things to consider as well -  build time, engineering bandwidth, and cost to name a few, as well as balancing this request with others that may take up time from the same engineering group.

I know there are 8 pages of comments about this issue, and it is a lot. Some of these factors like engineering bandwidth are less visible to you all, which is why I wanted to give a little insight into some of the behind-the-scenes work.

Thank you for your patience, and understanding - our eng teams are working on other features that we hope make POS even better for you. If we have updates on this thread, we'll post them here. Pesso's post is deceptive.  At this point you/we are only able to edit the category name and add color to the boxes - not able to add images to categories as we can with items.  Whats the holdup square?  This should be a simple programming solution.  Think of all the users you will make very happy.

It definitely is a popular request to add photos to the item library grid and our Product Team is aware that sellers are asking for it. 

I took a look at @pessosices's post on this thread and don't see anything misleading. It looks like @pessosices took the time to share the instructions on how to customize the icons - which is an available feature.

Thats true... Customizing an icon is an available feature if you just want different colors or wording.  But at the moment, adding a photo is unavailable at the category level, as is possible on the items.

@Lovefoodcentral - The original post was asking about changing the color and text, and I wanted to make sure the original poster and anyone else who stumbled along the post realized that it is now available. Adding photos would defintely be great, but what the Square team have done in the meantime is a great first step and helps my business a lot, and I'm sure a bunch of others too.

Same here. As of 4.73 this functionality is still absent. Seems like an easy change since you already can do this with individual items. I desire a professional look for my Square Stand iPad and the category letters just don't cut it. This thread is over a year old and many pages long and many other threads on the same topic out there. Can we get a definitive update vs a 'we hear you' answer?

So sorry @soswax, we don't have a timeline for when this feature will be available and I'm sorry for the frustration this is causing. Currently, you can edit the color and a label of a category tile but you're right, you can't add a picture yet.

I know our Product Team is still tracking interest in adding pictures to category tiles, and if this becomes available in the future we'll update this thread.
