Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

has we pay retail plus each month for 5 locations, this is very frustrating.

This will be a make or break feature. I've been on this POS for 2 years now and need bundles and COGS reports and integrated inventory between brick n mortar and website. Simply cannot run a business without these basic features. Anyone, updates on bundles....its 2022......     @dbc2 any solution you found? or what new POS  should I move to?

This is definitely a feature that is needed for restaurants.  Just think about buying a combo at any fast food joint.  We offer panini's that you can add a bag of chips, cookie, or fruit salad to.  We also sell chips, cookies, and fruit separately.  And since I can't mark a modifier ingredient out of stock (which is also needed), this would help.  So I can set the stock level for the chips (50 bags) and when I get down to 0, it automatically marks that out of stock for all associated bundles since a bundle is a combo of items...not modifiers.  As stated many times, this is needed.  I was in talks with another POS provider and almost went with them, but the cost of buying everything was prohibitive.  They had this feature.

Any update on this thread again regarding bundles but still taking those items out of inventory individually? I believe Shopify does this so I know it’s possible. It’s 2022 Square, can you make this a priority?

Hey @Bobs-Tropical- No updates to provide on this feature as of today. We will make sure to post in our Seller Community when we have more details.

Have a good day.

Is it possible to find out how many times this feature has been requested to your team and approximately how high it is on the list? It really seems like Square, now Block, had been completely ignoring their client base since 2016.

@tspoutlet I think it’s a little bit unfair to say that Square/ Block is ignoring its customer base because 1 requested feature isn’t getting priority treatment. I have been using Square since it started and new features are constantly being rolled out. We request a lot of new features and I would say they try to focus on giving priority to the requests that will improve the platform for the most users. I own a retail shop and would definitely benefit from this request but on the other hand I have been able to streamline my process with the improved features that have been rolled out over the last couple of years. I am sure that this feature will eventually make it into system. Enjoy your weekend

I would like this feature also - really looking for the ability to group products for a set price and deduct each individual product associated with that group/bundle from inventory. In my case - a salami bundle with 3 types of salami
