Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

I too have a similar problem. I'd like to take previously inventoried items, combine them,  and make gift baskets. To do this, i will have to take the 9 individual items, edit their inventories, and create another item which will not track the sale of these items. then if they do not sell, i will have to re-edit the individual item inventories...again. I have really enjoyed using Square, and it has been very intuitive. seeing as though I do not have any previous retail experience, I think this is high praise.  But, this one area of weakness seems glaring.

my company sells gift baskets with multiple items and also sells those same items individually, is there anyway to bundle items for sale and have the individual items detracted from inventory?

I believe that the Square Team is still looking into this.

The work around is creating a discount for each tier. For example:

1 bar of soap = $8 (no discount)

3 bars of soap = $24 (no discount) - You can create an automatic discount.

When a customer purchases 3 items from: Soap

Apply $3 discount to exact quantity

Every time they purchase 3 soap bars, a discount will apply.

How many years does it take for something as common and requested as bundling to be added as a basic feature? Here's my problem. I'm selling candles and some of my candles come in pairs for a discount. When I sell a pair, I need the inventory for each of the individual candles that come in the discounted pair to go down by one. I've been reading these threads and I think it's inexcusable that there has been no movement on this feature. I launched my business this summer as a result of Covid and I had to move quickly, so I signed up with Square without doing enough research, i guess. I am seriously considering moving to a different platform. I only carry a small amount of inventory at a time, so tracking it is paramount to the success of my business.

Currently a feature request we're tracking on this thread I merged your post with.

We'll let you know if any updates around this feature's availability come up. @chaya143

Hi @StagedoorCandle, one thought you might try. There is a way to offer discounts when a specific number of things are purchased, like 10% off when you by any two candles. This way you can have inventory for each candle, and when they are sold as a pair you will still ring up each one so that inventory decreases correctly. To do this, go to your Dashboard > Items > Discounts > Create a Discount > Automatic Discount > Quantity.

Yeah, I understand how that works, but with my current business model, the discount is to be applied to specific pairings of products, not just any multiple item purchase. This automatic discount is good to know for future sales, but sadly doesn't fix my issue.

Same here in echoing the great need for a bundle/kit feature that appropriately tracks the inventory of separate items. For our bakery, it's about offering something as simple as donuts in dozen or half-dozen quantities without having to maintain a separate stock of donuts specifically for boxes. For the holidays, this is also true for cookie boxes. I saw the comments about getting Trunk as a workaround, but paying several more hundred dollars a month for that subscription is just not tenable for us.

Square – help! You've made online business possible for thousands of businesses during the pandemic and have been so great to adapt along with us – thank you! Please keep it up.

@rainbowbakery Hey there, sorry about the pricing with Trunk. Our pricing goes by orders/mo but we can better tailor it to only SKUs you will be doing bundling/kitting on. Furthermore, we also have low margin, high volume discounts which it sounds like applies to your business.
