Feature Request: Bundle items as a single item, pull from inventory individually - combo/combination

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Inventory: Can you bundle items together as a single item or special?

We have multiple products for the same price.   We offer a 3 for $20 special, which is a mix & match of any three products.   How do I handle the inventory count?   Do I need to add each item with the discounted amount, so at check out I would have to select three discounted items?   Or do I add each item at the regular amount and apply an overall discount?

Hey @FurnishbyIsa and welcome to the Community!

This isn't something we offer at this time.

This would be a feature request we can pass up but I haven't seen any other requests for this yet. Hopefully other sellers who are looking for this can add onto the thread!

Re: Can square reduce inventory of two different items sold as one?

Hi there!

Unfortunately for bundle created items that combine two separate items together will not reduce your inventory for each.

What you can do is create a discount and apply it to the sale when both items are purchased together.

This will reduce your inventory and also reduce the price to the amount that you like.

Re: How to track inventory with a mix & match 3 for $20 special?

Hey @Baconation, thanks for surfacing!

I can see how this would be a bit tricky for your 3-for-$20 special, especially since inventory is a high priority.

Depending on how you need to track your items, I have three suggestions:

  1. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply an overall discount.
Pro: Allows you to track the inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special.
Con: You would have to ring up the 3-for-$20 special as a separate transaction. Otherwise, the discount will apply to the entire sale.

  2. Add each item individually to the sale, then apply the discount to each of the three items.
Pro: Allows you to track inventory for each item regardless of being part of the special and ring up additional items in a single transaction.
Con: More of a manual process that may increase the length of time to complete a sale.

  3. Create a "3-for-$20 Special" item.
Pro: It's fast and since the price would be locked, you can add it to a sale with other items.
Con: You wouldn't be able to track each individual item within included with the "3-for-$20 Special" item.

I understand how automating this would be super helpful for your business and I'll be sure to share your experience with our product liaison team.

Find step-by-steps on applying discounts in our Support Center.

Hope this helps clear things up for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

If I am selling 2 items for $10 apiece but if both are bought they would sell for $18, can Square reduce my inventory for each item?

I have the 2 items selling for $18 setup in my prduct list but I don't know how to reduce my inventory for each item.

Any suggestions?

Twice a year we have a sale on a collection of 4 items.  Is there any way to bundle the four items (and the discount and shipping) into one super-item?  It gets tedious to add the items over and over for each sale, and it's easy to make a mistake...

@JohnO Great question! While we don't have a way to link items together in your Square Register, you can create a separate item for your "super-item" and have the item description list out all of the items that are being included in that "super-item".

Keep in mind this won't automatically track the inventory for those 4 items that are being included but you can enable inventory tracking for your "super-item" and manually update your other inventory in your Square Dashboard after all of your sales have been completed.

This is a good idea to allow "bundles", especially for merchants that track inventory counts. There has been discussion of allowing inventory to work this way, but it would be a while before it launches if it is introduced.

In the mean time (within a month at worst), you will be able to disable items at all of your locations so you don't have to keep re-creating sale items. You would just disable the item and then enable it before the next sale. I hope this helps!

I have a similiar issue. At my distillery I offer a 4-pack of my Bourbon, rum, moonshine and vodka at a special price.  To create the 4-pack pricing I picked one item and created a second price that reflected the bundled discount.  For example lets say I normally price everything at $30/bottle but I offer the 4-pack for $100.  So I needed an easy way to offer my discount.

Normally all 4 products would cost $120 but the bundle only costs $100 so I created a second SKU/Price for the Rum I named "4-pack Price" at $10/bottle (you could do this for all 4 products and spread the discount but I think its easier to just pick one thing).

Now when I ringin the 4-pack I select the first 3 products at full price but select the rum with the "4-pack" price.  The total now comes in at my advertised price of $100.  This also allows me to keep track of how many 4 packs I've sold vs standard sales since I now have a specific SKU for it.  Not perfect but works fine for me.    On the marketing side I have found the 4-pack has really increased my sales. 🙂

The above may or may not work for you, I guess it depends on how many items you are selling and the prices

I also use the above technique for my military discount, etc.

Hello everyone, thanks for bringing this up!

A handful of other sellers had similar questions about specials and inventory, and came up with some additional options. Check out this thread for more information and let us know it it helps!

Rest assured that we're continuing to track this request, and keep in touch for updates. 👍

I am new to square pos and we are using for a little League snack shack.  What is the best way to track hamburger sales vs cheeseburger sales?  If we have an inventory of a 100 burger patties and we sell 70 with cheese and 30 without how do we track, let me know if that is clear

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create items for a concession stand. We offer meal deals like buying a hot dog, drink, and chips is cheaper than buying each seperately. Should I create 1 item for each meal deal, or is there a better way? I'm trying to also implement inventory, so that we know when things are sold out.

Thank you!

@Ron - would you have advice on setting up items for "meal deals" or combos?

Thanks for the post, @hcyouthchorus
