Feature Request: Limit the quantity of an item a customer can purchase on my Square Online website

The title of this post has been edited from the original: How do I Limit the Quantity A Customer Can Purchase of an Item?

I have a very limited number inventory on an item in my online store. Is there a way to limit the number a customer can purchase in a single transaction? Example: "Limit 4 per Customer".

Thanks!

This is not available at this time but a great Feature that would be.

Found it - it's buried under advanced settings under Pickup & Delivery.

Don't think this is 'Advanced'  might want to change that.

Add us to the list of customers that have been patiently waiting for this feature and are getting increasingly frustrated that it hasn't been implemented.  Square did a great job pushing out other much needed updates related to COVID-19, but somehow does not see this as a priority.  Many businesses that were limiting products in-person, have shifted to online sales and now have no way to create limits without messy cancellations, refunds, and angry customers.

This is a simple feature, consistently requested by a lot of vocal customers.  Get it done.

Hi,

Has there still been no movement on this issue ?? It seems like a fairly basic option - and a very necessary one !! Especially amidst the pandemic, it is crucial to be able to limit quantities. What has Square been working on ? There are requests for this as far back as 2016. How many vendors need to write before Square takes action?? Please let us know of progress as soon as possible.

Hi there, @soleorch - thanks for reaching out to us and checking in on this thread. We don't have a shareable timeline on this feature just yet. However, if you are curious about how our Engineers choose which features to implement, you can view this hepful post from Kpay.

I hope this is helpful!

Hello, I was hoping to either request or figure out how to operate our online store using category level pars.  For example: if we only have 100 pizza doughs to sell for the night, instead of limiting each pizza individually, guests can only collectively order 100 pizzas total.

Also, I'd be interested in category limits per order as well.  For example:  If we're selling sandwiches, sodas, salads, but sandwiches are they only items that create long waits, I'd like to limit the amount of total sandwiches a guest can purchase as opposed to total items a guest can purchase.  This is especially helpful because other items (sodas, sides, etc.) do not take extra time and should not be part of a limit.

Thank you for any help and insight.

Thanks for posting @sloaf

Both scenarios you provided are considered feature requests right now. I've moved your question to this thread so that if we have an update to share, you'll be notified.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your needs!

We sell one-of-a-kind items and need this feature badly!

We're a Square Partner that makes custom, branded mobile apps powered by Square and this is easy for us - if your Customers order through your app. We can easily make it so you can limit by Category or Item.

We're working on finishing up a custom Square Website version of our Mobile App too - that will do the same thing.

Has this yet been added?!  Launching webstore today for our brewery and for limited releases, via "presale", we want to have a min/max of the main item with the ability for customers to "add on" other items within the product library.  We switched from Revel, which had plenty of deficiencies, but this was not one.

EX.

  • Presale Item: BEER XYZ
  • Launch Presale at 3PM on Monday.  Allow this store item open for a specific time period (Monday @ 3pm thru Tuesday @ 3pm) with timeslots available for pickup.  NOTE: We would also appreciate time slotcustomization and not only option being 15min default currently available.
  • Set min for BEER XYZ to one 4pack and max of two 4packs...So they have to purchase the special item, BEER XYZ in this example, before proceeding with "add on items"
  • Hold customer to 1-2 units of "BEER XYZ" with having many other beer to go as add on items (some may have limits, many not - so be able to set per item..."add ons" included)
    • No $$ maximum, so they can also add on gift cards, other merchandise, etc, but only accept orders tied to BEER XYZ presale if 1-2 4pks are selected first.

Please help expedite as have yet to cancel our old point of sales and although does not compare remotely to customer facing look, this is a NEEDED feature for us and is presenting the challenge of refunding or cancelling all orders that do not follow the guidelines posted to social media which we are lucky if 50% of people actually read!!!!!

Just adding my name to the list of users who would love to see this implemented! Please keep us up-to-date if this becomes a reality. Thank you!
