Feature Request: Kiosk / Hide Options

Since we cannot seem to get the actual functionality for a self service kiosk, can we at least get an update to the app, so that we do not see the menu items for things an employee does not have access too? (e.g. if the employee does not have access to reports... why does the menu item display? Seems it would make sense to remove instead of clicking on it and see the permissions error.

Hello @Opendoor!

You'll want to send @gamecoder5 a private message if you're interested in their self-service solution. 🙂

Thank you @Chad for the referral!

@Opendoor I can definitely get you more information about the self service kiosk if you send me a private message. I have a website with a newsletter to sign up to get the latest updates.

I know I haven't been on here in a while giving updates, the project is coming along very well though. I really am looking forward to getting this out there to you and others as soon as possible.  I understand the need for your business and others similar to you. Through various inputs from users like yourself, the project has made alot of pivots, and is building into something that is very easy to use and get started with using the project's Square Import Wizard (basically you will sign up, give us permissions to access your Square inventory, run the wizard, and you have a kiosk), but with the ability to make a highly customized kiosk solution if desired. It works like the following:

You create an "app" in the interface.  From here you can either use a wizard to quickly build a kiosk in under a minute, and/or you can take that and customize or start from scratch.

Apps consist of "workflows".  Workflows define the different interactions between your users and your kiosk.  You can have 1 or more workflows in your kiosk app.  This idea was derived from a user who requested the ability to have seperate Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.  A workflow will allow you to do just that, with the ability to have the app automatically change workflows at certain times, or you can do so manually.  There may be other triggers in the future as well.

Workflows consist of "pages".  These are the different screens your user interacts with during their time at the kiosk.  Using the wizard, these will "automagically" be prepopulated for you.  Every page has 3 views in the editor.  The "preview" panel, which allows you to test what the page looks like as well as interact with it to make sure its behaving correctly, its as if you are actually using the kiosk, but just in test mode.  The second panel is the "component" panel, which is a hierarchy of the different components that make up the page. Here you can dynamically add remove components.  Components range from simple things like text and color pickers, to complex objects like a Square Product Families List.  Now don't get scared by this screen.  You won't need to do much customizing here but maybe a few word changes and color changes through the editor if you are using the wizard to build everything.  It only gets technical if you or a third party wants to build a more custom kiosk solution. The last panel tab is the "code" editing tab.  This is not needing edited by you at all unless you are creating a custom programmed solution.

So you see, with this tool, you are going to be able to quickly get your kiosk up and running, but with the potential of having a third party or yourself create a highly customized solution in the future.  This will allow you to get running quickly with very little time investment to make sure you like the product, and then in the future, invest more time and money if needed for something more custom to your business.

One thing this tool supports out of the box is internationalization (i18n in code speak).  This again was from a user who had requested the ability for kiosk users to be able to choose what language they want  to work with during the kiosk workflow experience.  Currency is integrated with the currency setup for your items in square, but there could be a real time converter added in the future. Another item being added is analytics.  Once completed, you should have the capability to see what your users are doing during their time on the kiosk, not just the orders they are requesting.  This will help you gauge their experience with the kiosk, what they are looking at, what they are skipping on, to help you adjust the experience for the best results.

Thank you again for your interest.  Again, please make sure to check my website and sign up for the newsletter to keep up with the latest (message me for that url if needed).

We tried to add the features that would be most important to restaurant owners running the Square POS.  Including:

- A comprehensive menu editor - import your menu library from square, edit/add categories/items/mod groups/mods, preview, and publish your kiosk

- A versatile image editor to add images to menu items

- A full featured KDS to help manage orders (also features Star Printer integration if that is your preferred method of order management

- Integration with Square processing via Reader SDK (no need for additional approvals, plug and play with your Square account)

- Summarized transaction level reporting synced back to your Square dashboard

- Robust settings to customize your self-order kiosk to your location.

- Compatible with Square stand for an easy, turn-key kiosk hardware solution

Download the app and try it out.  Let us know your thoughts/feedback.  We are continually working on this to make it the best experience possible.
