Square Stand Inventory Management When Sold Out

Square Stand Inventory Management When Sold Out

I want to use square stand to sell lunch tickets in a trade show type environment at 4 different stations around the venue. I have 8 lunch options, and I would like to be able to stock all stations with more than enough physical tickets, and just have the inventory option display as sold out when the actual number of available lunches are sold out, and not allow any more sales to be processed. This way I don't have to worry about printing the exact number of tickets and some stations having extra tickets when others are sell out even if there is "stock" left. Essentially I want the option to have inventory work like it does for an online store at the physical register. Is this a possibility?

Thanks, Josh

Hello @AEndelman! This feature is still being tracked as a feature request. When there's a Best Answer it helps other sellers in the Community to find the thread. Sorry for any confusion! If we have any updates to share we'll also update the Best Answer.

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: Configure Square POS to Not Allow Sales of Out of Stock Items?

We use Square and love it.  We don't use the online store, but just use the POS.  That said, we absolutely need a way to configure things so that a POS user CANNOT sell and item that we don't have.  We have inventory management turned on and track all inventory religiously, but someone entering an order for a customer can still choose and sell an item that has a stock level of 0.  I've read through various threads on the topic, but cannot seem to find a way to handle this.  Help??

Hi @davefackler, I'm sorry for the trouble this has caused. You're right, at this time there isn't a way to block an item from being sold from the Point of Sale app even if its out of stock. I absolutely see how having a setting to prevent is important toyou. We're tracking this request in this thread and we'll share any news on this here.

That thread appears to be at least a year old.  Sad that Square hasn't gotten this accomplished yet (particularly since this doesn't represent an entirely new feature - just a tweak to an existing feature that appears to work (albeit differently) within the on-line store versus within the POS.  Disappointing.

It’s more than a year old if you look way back, been an issue since day one. It’s mind blowing they still haven’t figured out how to keep inventory true and not allow over selling of an out of stock item. If I didn’t have so much money invested in square products for my shops I’d bail and go with a program that’s better suited for inventory. I live everything else just not the inventory issues.

Any news about it? It’s a very basic feature should be up to us to decide if we want to sell or not out of stock items.

Any partner has a solution? Email do not work when you have a line in front of you.

Serriously Sqaure, we need some action on this - please listen to you users.

For us this is really creating a headache and is the primary reason for us looking for a new POS solution. Square has been great but we really need to be able to remove items from the inventory whilst they are temporarily out of stock. I know your restaurant app has this functionality but as we're not a restaurant it would be a pretty silly move for us.

Can you tell us if there is likely to be a fix for this soon - before we move platform?

Thanks

Any updates on this?  The lack of this feature continues to be an issue for us; we continue to have to choose between risking overselling of items, or paintstakingly checking inventory of each item while a line of customers is waiting to check out.  Both are bad.

We can’t sell what we don’t have. In a high traffic business you have to trust your systems.

The ideal would be when added more items than you have in your stock a pop up shows up with some saying like ‘there are not enoght items in your inventory to complete this order. Would like to adjust the order to the stock?’ Two buttons ‘adjust’ and ‘oversell’.
