Is there a tax calculator for refunds?

My bookkeeper is having issues and I have noticed this as well.  We often issue partial refunds (single line item in long receipt) or full refunds.  But it is not auto-calculating the tax refund due to customer.  It asks us to input amount to refund.  Which means we have to manually calculate tax refund.  And it is not listed as tax refund, but just a flat refund amount.  This makes reconciling our books very difficult.

With a robust system like Square, I'm pretty surprised that this very basic feature isn't available.  So I'm sure we are doing something wrong.  Anyone have information that could help us?  Thanks!

Re: Help! Refunds (full or partial) with tax calc???

Hey @RofT, welcome back!

Currently we don't offer a tax calculator for refunds. Also refunds will show as a flat amount. I can see how this will make balancing your books difficult. We don't have this on our road map currently but, I will make sure to pass this feature request along to our product team! 😀

If I have any updates I will make sure post them in this thread.

Chad, you're serious?  That is crazy!  Refunds with tax (uh...extremely common) have to be not only calculated manually with a calculator but my bookkeeper has to separate out taxes from the total?

And Square reporting will be inaccurate over time.

Taxes run our country and everyone charges them and everyone refunds them.  It's required by law.  This is a priority for Square.  I need more than a boiler plate answer from you.  This is absolutely ridiculous.

Oh and Chad, please don't mark this as "solved" because it won't be solved until this simple feature is included.

I too would like to request this get put on the road map!  Very important feature request.  Not only does it mess with accounting, it is kind of hokey when we have to break out the calculater in front of a customer to calculated the tax on this machine that everyone thinks is so high tech!  Thanks for taking this into consideration.

Agreed - this is not solved!  We need a solution to this basic feature.
