Why "Download Square app" email?

I just created a Square account, got the link and made a test payment. That all worked. However, I have an email from Square saying, "Square You're almost done. Download the Square app. ... You're only a few minutes away from accepting paymens securely and getting paid fast with Square." It then gives me two links: https://appstore.com/squareinc/squarepos,  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.squareup, and also, "If you'd like to take payments on your computer, complete sign up here https://squareup.com/activation."

What is this for and why do I need it/them? I was able to make a payment using the link. It seems that my activation must therefore be completed and nothing else for me to do, right?

Not sure what link you're referring to that you used, but the email is giving you links to the app store on Apple or Google to download the Square app to take payments.

VanKalkerFarms - thanks for your reply.

"Not sure what link you're referring to that you used ..." On the Dashboard, Online Checkout option, there is a button, "Create Checkout Link". I used that to create a link that I put on my website which brings up the Transaction page for the user to enter a payment.

"the email is giving you links to the app store on Apple or Google to download the Square app to take payments."

So, if I'm not using a smart phone to take payments, I don't need any apps, right? If that's true, the email was a bit confusing in that the subject was "You forgot something!", and the body had "You're almost done ...", all of which implied that I wasn't finished registering and I had more required steps to go.
