Why are my sales tax collected and taxable sales are not in sync?

If my sales tax collected and nontaxable sales not in sync, how do I figure out which is correct.  I have had a few deposits, returns & out of state sales.  Where do I find a report showing the non-taxable sales only to double check which figure I should use?

If you look at your Tax report (for your time period) you will see it displays Taxable sales, Non-Taxable Sales and Net Sales which is the total of the pervious two.

If you compare this to your sales summary of the same time period they should match.  On your Sales Summary report  Net Sales from the Tax report will match your Net Sales under the Net Column.  You will not find Taxable or Non-taxable amounts on this report.

Hope that helps

@RHatch I do not have un-taxed items ( items that are 0% tax rate )showing as the category of non-taxable sales on my screen. How do I set up this category ? I must have done it wrong initially....

Don’t assign any tax code to it. If you assign a 0 tax the system thinks it has tax. All on mine that are tax free have no tax assigned and it works fine.

@RHatch Thank you !! Now...how about making that the case for a custom amount keyed in by the keypad ? Or should I make it a category that is manually entered for the amount each time ?

I don’t allow custom amount. I created a “service fee” item with no price so they can enter  a price at time of sale. This way you can put it in a category and assign tax if needed. I have a couple of these that way I know what they are for and can track them.

Hello!  I noticed recently the Tax report now doesn't tell me the total of my taxable retail items.  I have had to go into category sales and add it up separately.  I am a hairstylist so have services and retail, but only retail has sales tax.  Can someone help me with this?

Hey @kinome! RHatch goes into some explaining on Tax reporting in this thread. Check it out and hopefully it helps you.

But if you're still not seeing those taxable items show up, go ahead and give our team a shout.
