What format can we use for bar codes or UPC Codes?

We are going to puchase a stand and bluetooth scanner and we are working on creating SKU's.  There are 2 different formats for UPC codes, UPC-A and UPC-E.  Since we are a small company that handmakes our products I was also looking at using Code 39, or Code 128. I don't want to spend hours doing more research on the different UPC codes if I can't use those formats with Square.

Hi @nansboutique and @GFHANDMADE

Any alphanumeric string can be a barcode, but it needs to be printed out in a format supported by the scanner used, so it depends on the type of scanner you're using and what the scanner supports.

A few sellers use the DYMO labelwriter 450, as the software that comes with the printer will allow you to customize, create, and print barcodes.

Is there anyway to print barcodes on specific labels? When I generated barcodes, it always starts at the top of the page. To prevent waste, I would like to be able to print on the remaining labels left on a used page.

This best answer does not answer the question. Will the system read EAN-8 barcodes? I was using a different register and it finally crapped out and we have switched to Square and I need to know if I have to recreate all my barcodes now?

Hello @Mysticbc,

We see its your first post in the Seller Community, welcome! 😊

Quick question, do you use the Square for Retail platform? If so, you should have the ability to use EAN-8 barcodes. What matters most here is the type of scanner you purchase and whether its supported with our Retail POS and device.

Check out @EJ's reply in this thread.

Please let me know if this helps! I also wanted to include this tidbit.
