I'm considering using sqaure to manage a social club bar. The biggest hurdle we have is different Price Levels in our Member Lounge than we do in our Function Hall for our non-member guests. We sell the same exact products in both which are drinks. How can we have different price points without two taps to select a price for a product vs just tapping the item and getting the price level you've chosen? Our current register just has 3 pricing modes you can click when you open up and from then on the price that comes up when you click a button is based on the price mode selected. This is critical that we have similar functionality, please help.
Here's the description of this feature from my current register manual:
PRC L1
This determines the Price Level is triggered by which Price Level Function Key. There are up to five different price levels per product, with up to twenty price levels available to be allocated. This allows a user to create a matrix of PLU’s Prices and how could each price to be accessed by one of the twenty price keys. If the number of PRICE LVL function keys used is more than Price Level allocated in MEMORY ALLOCATION, more settings also need to be checks. Please refer to PGM-Mode SYSTEM OPTION LEVEL / MODIFIER OPTIONS and PGM-Mode FUNCTION KEY PRICE LVL 1 ~ 20 for more option.
Default : 01
When more Price Level you have allocated, PRC L2 defaults to 02, PRC L3 to 03... etc

Unless you only have a few items, and can list them all on the front page of your POS screen, I don't know how you would get by without using the "Price Variation" feature when you create your item.
If you haven't tried it, when you create an item in your dashboard, scroll down to the "Price and Inventory" section. Within that section, you have options to create different variations and give them a specific price. This would allow you to select which pricing you want to use.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for answering. I'm cool with the "Price Variation" feature if I could get the POS to utilize one price or the other based on how I start the sales session. So I have "Member Prices" as one variation and "Public Prices" as the other. Tonight I'm having a funtion for members and I want to tell Square to use the "Member Prices" variant tonight. I just don't want to have to select the proper price for every drink throughout the course of the night. And what if I pick the wrong price by accident.
I want the system to filter that for me. I'm not sure how to do that. 😞

It sounds like you will have two different systems in place then, correct? If so, try setting up a different location for each system. I haven't tried this myself, but after digging a bit, I found a similar issue. Try this thread:

I spoke to support. They suggested using "Locations" as the only way to solve this problem at this time. It's a bit of a kludge. They did take my call as a feature suggestion to allow users to toggle which "Price Variation" to use at any given point in time vs displaying all of them all the time. This feature is available on so many resister systems as standard functionality, I hope development is listening and does something about it.

The location feature is pretty much what you are asking for (from what I can see) if you are using two different systems, and you don't need them to share pricing at any point in time. I hope it works out for you!

Interesting you brought that up. Given the "Locations" solution, I would want to log into a different Location from the same terminal. I hope I can do that. I'll have to check it out. Thanks again.

I inquired about the exact same pricing issue earlier this winter. We have a non-profit foundation associated with our businesses and both Members and the Foundation itself purchase product at different price levels. These price levels are based on our cost of the product, not a discount off the retail price. Our current system lets us choose a price level for each of these customer types and those price levels correlate with the price levels that we assigned the product when we created it.
The Location or Variation feature were both suggested to me as work arounds and they are exactly that, work arounds, not solutions. I have one register and could have a regular customer, then a Member, then another regular customer so being able to choose a price level for each transaction would be way simpler than logging into a new loction. The variations won't work well either as I already have an item list with 1000+ SKU's.

Just doing more looking through feature updates, this screen shot shows where you can view the price and cost of an item in your library. This is where I would expect to be able to see mulitple price levels "Price 1, Price 2, Price 3" etc that could actually be named for uses such as "Regular price" "Member Price" "Sale Price" so that the same item could have specific prices for specific customer types or time periods (say you want to offer sale prices only on Mondays). The sales screen would then need to offer an option to pick a price level that would correlate to these same options.
