@NamoNo fair giving up on my watch! 🙂

I'm going to start at the beginning simply because it's really easy to skip a step or get bogged down in the whys and hows, so even if you've done all this I do recommend just double-checking your work. I've found more goofs than I care to admit just by going back over my setups.

Let's start with the Tax screen in items library.... hmmm.... this is new and may be a source of your difficulties. It looks like Sales Taxes have moved out of the item library.

So, Account & Settings -> Business -> Sales Taxes

For me, I have three taxes set up. My county tax (EPC Sales), city tax for one location, and a bottled beverage tax. In my county, I have a 5.13% tax unless it's a bottled beverage, then I'm only charged 2.25%. For you, all you need to do here is Create your sales tax percentage if you haven't already:

For us in the US, I highly recommend keeping the Include tax in Item Price line disabled.

Once you have the name and tax percentage entered (and if you're using multiple locations what location(s) the tax is used in), click the Add Items link:

tax3.jpg

If you have a large item library, this step can be tedious but it's necessary. Choose every item you want to have this tax applied to.

Once you have this list filled out, click Assign Items then Save.

Now, when you go to create an invoice, all the taxes should auto-populate:

In this test invoice, my Turkey Bacon Melt and Drunken Snowman both had the EPC sales tax added to it while the Boylan Sodas had the Bottled Beverage tax. Both are broken down below the subtotal line. The item price will be the base price only (unless you enabled that tax included in item price line from the tax screen above). The taxes will always show at the bottom of the invoice.

If you're still not seeing taxes after all this, please take some screenshots and reply here. We can't dig into your account in a public forum--you'll have to call customer service for that--but we should be able to help you down the right path.

Hope this helps!

Hello @Floydblount

Sales taxes are handled on an item level in Square versus at an invoice level.

On your dashboard, head to Items -> Sales Taxes. Set up all the taxes you need here and determine if the tax is added to the price or included in the price.

On the same screen, you can click the Apply to Items link. Select the items that need that tax.

For every new item you create, the sales taxes are automatically applied to the item. You can deselect the taxes you don't need on the item creation screen.

Since you're invoicing, I would check with your local sales tax board to make sure you're taxing correctly for orders out of the usual taxing area. Some places require you to collect the taxes, some put that burden on the consumer.

More information about sales tax setup.

Hope this helps!

Sorry but this is too complicated. I have tried everything turning them on and turning them off and nothing seems to work. I am ready to give up.

Amigo,

Are these screenshots in a link for people to see the steps? Your explanation helped a lot with the screenshots. Where it says apply tax to items.... Can at the top show the same as you did for...

So, Account & Settings -> Business -> Sales Taxes

By the way I am also having a hard time building my website... sections disappear there is no tab for saving changes. I will look into that next time. For now, let me see how this will work out.
