How do I send a Square Marketing email to all customers EXCEPT a handful of them?

Hey all, I have hundreds of customers on my list, and a small handful of them I don't want to receive today's email. I can't figure out how to tell the system "Send this to everyone but these 7 or so contacts."

What I'd expect would be a simple list of all my customers, a Select All option up top, and the ability to deselect the 7 I don't want getting the email. But the way Square's reinvented the wheel here, the list doesn't even show all my customers—it stops loading when I reach names starting with N—much less provide an option to select them all in one action.

I was able to create a custom group with the blacklisted contacts, but now I have no idea how to use that group to exclude them from the email.

Anyone have ideas? Thanks in advance!

We'd really like to get this email sent out as soon as possible. We're having customers email us daily, asking about what's going on with our salon, and we need to update them all soon. Is there any way to do this?

Hi @SalonUK Thanks for reaching out! As a heads up, if you're looking for immediate assistance, you will need to reach out to our support teams via messaging, social media, or phone as the Seller Community can sometimes take about 2 business days for a response.

To answer your question, you can definitely do this. After creating your marketing campaign, you can edit your audience and select what groups of customers you want to reach out to. Since you know what customers you want included in this marketing campaign, I would suggest creating a customer group for these customers you want the campaign to go to and then selecting that group at the end of creating your campaign.

To add and edit groups in your Customer Directory:

  1. Visit Customers in your Square Dashboard.
  2. Under All Customers, click + New Group or select the group you’d like to edit.
  3. To edit the customer visit settings for a smart group (a group automatically created by Square), click Edit Group. For a group you’ve created, you’ll only see the option to edit the group name.
  4. To edit a contact within a group, click the customer’s name > Edit Customer.
  5. Click Save to update your changes.

For any new customers you manually add to your directory, you’ll see the option to assign them to a group at the time the contact is created. If you need to add an existing customer contact to a group:

  1. Search and select a customer profile.

I hope this helps! Thanks for your time!

Thank you for the response, but this still isn't working. We aren't able to see every customer in the list, as it caps out at a certain number, and we can only see our list up through the letter N.

Also, even if we could access the full list, with so many contacts, selecting each one except the ones we don't want receiving the email is a painful process. The fact that we only get a handful of customers at once and have to keep scrolling only makes it more frustrating.

I'd been discussing this with @SqSupport on Twitter, but they stopped after we got to this point, which sort of implies there isn't really a solution sorted out for this scenario at the moment. That's why I posted this here, because their replies went dark.

I hear you. That would be a lot to scroll through and make sure only a handful of customers weren't on the list. We don't really have a lot of other options, but you can try adding all reachable customers to a specific list then searching the names of the customers you don't want and manually removing them. That will be better than scrolling through the names.
