I have never quite been able to recreate the Sales Summary Net items (gross sales, discounts etc.) in a way that matches our actual deposits.
There's a lot of factors that affect the sales reports like pay outs, fees, refunds, and subscription purchases.
I would appreciate if someone could make a breakdown of everything that actually affects Net Sales so that I could create invoices in my accounting software that actually match my deposits.
Here's an example of what I would need:
The following stuff is already included in the Sales Summary
Gross Sales
(Discounts)
Net Sales
Gift Card Sales
Tax
Tip
(Partial Refunds)
Total Collected
I would like to go from Total Collected down to Expected Deposit Total as follows:
Total Collected
- pay outs
- subscription fees
- Transactions carried over to next days sales summary
+ transactions from previous day
- Pending credit transactions
+ Previously pending credit transactions added to deposit
+/- anything else that affects the Sales Summary down to the point of deposit.
Ideally Square could create a master report that includes data from ALL the other reports (payment methods, drawer reports, etc).
Thanks in advance!

@JMUSK Thanks for the post!
This specific report you mentioned isn't fully available, but you might get a bit more useful information from downloading your Deposit Transaction report.
This will at least give you the transactions that were included from the previous day.
You can also view the Pending Deposit amount that's sitting in your Square Balance from the Deposits tab.
I'll definitely send this over to our Product Team, as I can see how these specific categories of reports would help with accounting.

Why did square remove bank payouts from the data included in the CSV that can be exported from Dashboard>Balance>View All Transfers ??? A list of all bank payouts (transfers) shows up, but when you select the export button, the data is only transaction detail of each sale that makes up the transfer, and does not include the transfers themselves. The payouts used to be included in the CSV & it would be very helpful if payouts from all locations were included in the list of sales from all locations. Since the CSV is exported from the Transfers screen it makes no sense to exclude the transfers from the exported data.

I am also boggled by this and trying to figure out how I can see that again or at least match it up with something in reports but can't figure it out yet.
Square!! Considering you once did this, it should at minimum be able to see what was my gross income vs merchant fees in a breakdown when we view transfer. I still am legally responsible for claiming my gross income and expensing the merchant fees. The fact that Square removed that and is making it more difficult is beyond weird.

We await this feature. All we need though, is simple report to PRINT that helps us reconcile the account at the end of the month.
For each item deposited, we would need the gross amount paid by customer, customer info, the amount deducted by Square and the net we should see in our account. On that SAME report we should have any transfers from Square Up into our bank account and end balance with square at the end of the period.
Every other processor gives us this simple, easy, report so we can reconcile. Why would this still be in formulation state?

YES! We need this feature desperately! We make deposits from cash and spend too much time trying to match up the transactions, and determine the tax categories that make up the cash deposits, so the info can be entered in QB and reconciled with the bank account. PLEASE MAKE IT EASIER OR WE WILL NEED TO FIND A DIFFERENT SERVICE! Thank you.

I'm shocked that deposits haven't been added. I take deposits for 90% of my services and it is extremely frustrating that the sales report doesn't have that feature.

We also would benefit from a more detailed report that show exactly what transactions are included in the transfers

Thanks for commenting on this thread @JoJoEngs! 💫
We do have this kind of report in the Square Dashboard > Balance > Transfer Reports. From there, you can click on a transfer and view each individual transaction that's included. Does that work?

Thats not quite what I'm looking for. I want to know more than what I was transferred. I want to know what service/item the deposit was made, much like the regular reports that you can view. For tax reasons I find it strange they dont include deposits in the regular report option.

is there a way to export the transfer report with category detail? This would help me when I make deposits in QBs. Currently am using the sales by day report but if a transaction is not captured properly, I have to manually back out the associated sales.
I would really like to see a Category breakdowns in the Transfer report to make posting my deposits in QBs easier when transactions do not get captured properly. The current Transfer report is the only report I can find that links items sold and tips to what is actually in a Transfer. A mashup between Items Detail and the Transfer report would be amazing (using the payment ID as the key).

I think I understand what people are asking for as this is the reason I found this web page.
I found a way to to make a mthly. report and export to a csv file. This is great but I wish that it gave the deposit amount to reflect what my bank shows in the exported cvs file. There are deposits that have multiple transactions. If I had a way to put details of these deposits in a printed excel sheet, then this would be so much easier to put this into my accounting software. As it is I have to bounce between Square portal and my online banking. A real pain.
Thank you,
Jim
