How can you tell that a receipt has been manually sent from a transaction?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Receipt sent

Is there any way to tell that a receipt has been manually sent from a transaction. In one of your Support Articles it states ‘Square Merchants should not send customers’ receipts to themselves.’ How else could I ensure that I have sent it other than sending one to the customer and another to myself.

Thanks for letting me know @tonydow! And yes, the receipt link and the invoice link there does lead to the same receipt.

If the customer has paid through an invoice sent to them by yourself, underneath you'll also see a line that say Invoice payment and be able to view the invoice like so.

Hi @tonydow, thanks for your post! There isn't a way to see whether a receipt has been sent from a transaction, but if the customer needs it again, you can always resend the receipt from your Dashboard

You can also let customers know that they can search online for their receipt from previous transactions and get another copy that way as well.

Thanks Tra. This is for me rather than the customer. Why do you suggest that sellers shouldn’t send a receipt to themselves. When I’ve received payment for an invoice I’ve raised, I like to acknowledge that by sending the customer a receipt. I need a record of this so the only way I’ve found is to send it to myself also.

We don't recommend sellers sending customers' receipt to themselves because it can causes confusion and the transaction can looks like it was made by the business itself rather than an actual customer.

You will always have access to the receipts and all other payment details from your Square Dashboard. To view the receipt for any payment, just go to Transaction on your Dashboard or within the app, click into the particular payment. You'll then see the full payment detail on your right-hand side including a receipt link. If you click into this, it'll show you the same receipt the customer got.

Thanks again Tra. I note that this works from the dashboard but in the app the receipt number isn’t a link. Also, in the dashboard, the receipt link and the invoice # link both link to the receipt. I expected the invoice # link to bring up the invoice. Is this correct. Thanks.

Thank you Tra. Could you please advise if the receipt linked to gets automatically sent to the customer when they pay the invoice.

If the customer has provided their email address or phone number to receive the invoice, a receipt will be sent out to them automatically after they've paid @tonydow! If they are not seeing the receipt, we always recommend that they check their spam folder first just in case it was routed incorrectly there.

That’s what I assumed but the reason I asked is because I can’t message them.

Let me check in with our engineering team about the expected behaviour in this case. Once I have a better understanding of the flow, I'll reach back out and let you know @tonydow

My customer has just confirmed that the receipt was in their spam folder so, in theory, I should be able to message them. I await your findings.
