How can I find out the details of what non-taxable sales are appearing in my monthly report?

I am a new user and looking for a report at the end of each month to know how much sales tax I have to pay.  I found a report, but now I find an amount of non-taxable sales and now I need to know what they are as all items should be taxed.

Your Tax Report in your Square Dashboard will display both your taxed and not taxed items.

You can also select the specific date range that you are looking for by clicking the date-selector at the top-left of the page (click the middle of the date-selector to see a full calendar view). Once a calendar appears, hit the first date of the custom range and then click the end date. The date range you select will be colored blue and the date range will be shown above.

@roughdraftny That does sound strange, however there's not much we can help with in regards to this through the Seller Community.

The only way to figure out where the discrepancy is coming from would be to contact our CS Team so they can walk through your reports with you.

I am noticing that "Comp items" show a 0 (zero) tax rate.

Not really sure if there's a line item on tax forms to accommodate this.

One would have to include these items in your total tax receipts.

I personally recommend consulting with a Tax professional in regards to this matter @QB1978. Keep in mind that Square Only reports Gross Credit or Debit Card Transactions so if these are comps they wouldn't be included in you 1099-K

I hope this information is helpful!

Hello! I'm just bumping this back up into current conversation. Who do we need to ask about creating a report where we can see what transactions had tax exempt items? Every month when I pay sales tax, I have to dig through the whole month's transaction history to figure it out. My state wants tax exempt items reported in 8 categories (nonprofits, wholesale for resale, out of state, etc.). It's very frustrating to have to dig and find all of that every month.

Hello there @LinWoodSweets thanks for reaching out with this feedback, and so sorry for all the frustrations with our reporting. I would feel the same way if I had to do all this extra work as well. At this time this would be a feature request. You can submit a feature request on our Ideate Board, our new process of tracking features.  When you submit your request please make sure to provide in detail your business need for this request.  If you know other sellers looking for a similar feature I would encourage them to comment on their needs on the post as well, the more sellers chime into the request, the more likely it is to catch our product team's eye. Once more information becomes available from our Product Team, a Community moderator will update the status to the next phase. We appreciate you taking the time again to check on this!

@LinWoodSweets ;

I have an idea that may help you.  If you export your monthly sales as a csv file and then sort the csv file by tax....this would at least get all the taxed and non taxed items together.  The type of buyer you would have rang up differently.  When I ring a Wholesale order up, I have a customer called Wholesale that is tax deductible maybe make one Non-profit.  Then on the sale in the notes you could put the name or ID.   Not sure if you can do this for yourself or not.  Out of State, is only for my online orders or shipped items which has a different State code, so can be easy to find.

By using the csv file to sort the items this way, you can also use it to total the column if you put a space between different categories.  This is not ideal but it may save you time over what your doing now.
