Do supported barcode scanners automatically add items to current sale?

Because I can not find a video or demo that shows this process, I need verification from either a square employee or someone who has used this equipment. If I use a supported IPad with the supported Socket Mobile 7Ci scanner, will scanning a barcode automatically add it to the current sale? Does it work the same for items and variants as well? (i understand all items/variants need a unique sku.) 

I have seen too many posts and videos that show scanners only searching the library and the user still having to select the product from the list. I would appreciate verification that this hardware works as stated above before I purchase it.

We use the Socket Mobile 7Ci scanner, and yes it works to add items that match your SKU field to a current sale, when the Square menu is one of your Point Of Sale menus.   If you are in the Items menu the scanner will look up an item by matching the barcode and matching it to a SKU you have as an item in Square. I think you will find it works great.
