Barcodes with Square in the UK

Has anyone managed to generate and print barcodes successfully in Uk? What labels do you use? There are only three label options from what I can see.

i bought the dymo printer from Square hardware, then found the only dymo label option is too big for our product.

i then switched to Avery. The only label size option is not actually available to buy in the uk.

What are other people using as a solution in Uk? I’ve invested in this but it’s not working out.

Hi Anji29

If I've understood your question correctly (ie external printing of barcode labels, not from a feature within Square that I have not yet discovered) then the following may help!

We are a food shop selling many locally produced / artisan products, the packaging of which mostly does not have barcodes.  We therefore print many barcode labels in a variety of sizes, all of which scan successfully on both our Register terminal and Square Stand terminals.

To do this, we use a DYMO LabelWriter 450 label printer via DYMOLabel Software (Version 8.7.4...) on a Windows 10 PC.  Within the software we use a barcode type called Code 39 (Code 3 of 9) which we select from the software's included list of barcode types.  We make up barcode numbers for each product from 5 to 7 digits long (which I keep track of on a separate spreadsheet to avoid duplication (though Square dashboard would also alert you to any duplications when you enter it!).  We enter the same number in the SKU field of the item when creating it on Square.

We use various size labels 50mmx12mm / 57mmx32mm / 51mmx19mm etc without any issue.  The software even lets you resize the barcode within the label so there is room for other info if required.

Hope that helps!
