We introduced the ability to offer a recurring donation option last summer ✨
I can give you a quick rundown here - let's go!
You'll start by heading to your Square Dashboard > Online Checkout
Click the Create checkout link in the top right-hand corner:
Select Accept a donation from the options in the pop-up:
On the next page, you'll want to give your donation item a name, and possibly a description.
Most importantly, be sure to click Advanced settings to toggle ON the Accept recurring donations setting.
This is also where you can select the frequency of the recurring donation and set a donation goal (optional).
At the bottom of this window, you can also add custom fields!
Be sure to hit Create link - now you've got your checkout link! If you want to customize the text shown on your button, locate your created checkout link from the Checkout Link page, and click it. Next, select Customize:
If you want to add this button to your website, copy the Website button code and head over to your website editor and insert it wherever you want customers to see your donation button ✨
Here's an example of my checkout link offering recurring donations:
If any questions come up as you create your checkout link, feel free to let us know here so we can dig with you, @RogerS!

Re: Does Square offer subscriptions for online store purchases?
Posted 01-19-2020
Hey there @Gabberdunes -
At this time, the only way to do this is by creating a Recurring Invoice Series. However, customers wont be able to opt in when placing online orders since online won't recognize them as an invoices.
I'll pass tag your idea as a feature request so the Product Team gets word of what you're looking for. Keep an eye out for updates!

The answer is YES
If I set up the Club Membership as an item, will it be able to get a report of the item sold together with the name of customers who bought it? Yes, you can assign a customer to any sale. If you are selling a recurring membership you can do this through recurring invoices. If the customer saves there payment information then it will auto charge the account each month.
Can I get a report of all payments going through the linked bank account for reconciliation purposes? There are many reports you can use to show payment and daily deposits.
Also, can multiple users share access to the software? Yes, You can use employee management to give controlled access to the app.

Hey @TABMin! 🌟
Just wanted to update this thread with our most current options.
As @RHatch said, you can create a recurring invoice to function as a subscription. This will autocharge your customer on a schedule of your choosing.
OR
We also have subscription payments with Square Checkout links. With Square Online Checkout you can set up one checkout link with the subscription feature enabled. Instead of using Square Invoices for recurring payments, the subscription checkout link can be used to accept weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual payments from multiple customers with a single checkout link. You can also self-select which specific checkout links your customers will be able to pay through. For example, use donation links for accepting monthly payments from donors/supporters.

I have a question. So if I sell a membership, can I then offer discounted pricing to members vs. non members? How would I do that?

@CASLSkateLeague prices won't auto adjust based on if a customer pays for a membership. You'll need to manually apply a discount to the sale for those members.

Please please add an option for subscriptions on the online store for monthly reoccurring payments that doesn’t use square invoicing. My company would like to do coffee subscriptions but we have QuickBooks for all invoicing since we are a large wholesaler as well as a direct to consumer. The reoccurring payments within square invoicing is not functional for us so we would like to see a separate option for the online store. Many other coffee company’s offer subscription models but probably use a different online store platform. Thanks!!

Welcome to the Community, @Cafeto -
Thank you for posting here with your Feature Request about adding subscriptions to the Online Store.
This is a great way to add your voice, so our Product Team can get a seller's point of view with our platform. I will be happy to tag it for the appropriate team.

We are a coffee roaster also and variable subscription products is an important feature for us as well. We currently use the online store and square for restaurants for our coffee shop part of our business and would like to move our roasting component away from WooCommerce to Square and use the online store for it as well.
We cannot do it without the ability to sell products on a subscription basis. We need a single product that the customer can select options for a one time purchase or a subscription purchase with weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly options.

Did this get added? We are launching a weekly floral subscription and I'd like to give our clients the option of paying monthly or all at once. I have used the recurring invoicing system before but I do not want to invoice everyone directly and manage it that way.
Please advise.

Hi gang-
I was invited to join the Beta group and this was my question. Looks like they are not even testing it now and don't plan to anytime soon. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything else but if your business ( like mine ) needs this ASAP don't rely on Square to do it.
I'm going to decide either on WIX or PayPal to use for this. Such a bummer.

Hi, I wanted to follow up on this discussion.. are there any plans to offer subscription options for the online store (reoccurring payments WITHOUT using square invoicing)? We have customers ask for this all the time and many other provides such as shopify offer this. Please add it soon!!! Super valuable during Covid times for WFH consumer and loyal customers

There is a “membership tool” that can be added to my website, which appears to be a one time fee to my customer. I am trying to set up a subscription-based item that would be charged on a monthly basis but can’t figure out how to create a monthly recurring charge. Any help?

Hi there, @Skyee91 👋 Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Seller Community! Happy to have you join us here. Welcome!
I've gone ahead and merged your post into an existing thread of Sellers who were also looking for information regarding selling subscription based services. Take a look at this Best Answer from Justin - he will walk through the suggested workaround for these type of sales, as well as some context to Square development of subscription-based sales.
Let us know if you have any clarifying questions! We are here to help.

Is there any update on offering online subscription/reoccurring payment for customers? Shopify offers this, please add this as a feature. Our customers have requested this be a feature and I keep on having to tell them our platform doesn’t offer it.
Not the online checkout link or square invoicing as it doesn’t fix the problem

I would like to take recurring payments for my membership site. Does Square have any options like this available yet? I looked into Chargify but it is too costly for my business. Is there anything else's that I can use with my Square account?

Hi Everyone 👋
Good news! We recently launched a feature that will allow sellers to offer subscriptions using Square Online Checkout.
Take a look at this product update for more information.
* Please note that the membership functionality through Square Online Store still does not have a recurring payment option.

I completely concur with this. The subscription link option is useless for our business.

Square check out option is a band aid at best. The feature is extremely limited!
1. When customers check out they can pay for the product but are not given the option to have the product shipped to them. I need to ship my monthly boxes,
2. Customers are not given the option of 1 month 3 month 12 month ... subscription options.
3. I cant charge shipping to my subscription.
Its a bit frustrating to see competitors in my industry using other ecommerce platforms that do exactly what i need. I have both, an ecommerce platform and a physical location. Having square streamline and sync both platforms is important. Its why I stay with square, but as my subscription service grows if this feature does not get serious update I will have no choice but to leave weebly and use a different platform. Please address this issue. As I have said before, Shopify is already offering this .
