Why my total collected doesn't match my total sales
Hi,
We are utilizing our Square for a grocery store. On one of my Sales Summary Reports, the total collected doesn't match my total sales. It normally does. Does anyone have any idea what might cause total collected to be more than total sales?
With gratitude,
-Jess

Hello there, I am sorry you are having issues with your reporting. From my understanding and the reporting I have seen total collected and total sales don't usually match. When I hover over total collected in Dashboard it states Total Collected includes partial payments and may not match Total Sales. It also states Total Sales only includes sales in which the final payment was completed in this time period.
If you do have any further questions I would recommend contacting customer support as they will be able to take deeper dive into your Dashboard and reports to determine what is going on. For account security we cannot discuss this here in community. I hope you are able to get to the bottom of this, if you need anything else reach back out here.

Hi MayaP,
Thanks so much! I'm pretty tenacious, so I couldn't give up on figuring it out. And I finally did! I discovered that it was related to partial payments received for invoices, where the payment for the invoice was not paid in full. Square is treating it essentially as a deposit, without oh so helpfully saying so.... But then I can see when the final amount owed is paid on a future date, that the sales are higher on that day than total collected, and it's short by the same amount as the earlier payment.
Essentially I need to treat the partial pays as deposits, and apply the deposit on the date that the final invoice payment is received.
Many thanks and Happy Holidays!
