New to square
I'm looking at POS devices for the fencing club I manage and I and the head coach have a few questions the website hasn't answered for us well.
- I haven't seen anything about a startup fee, but is there one? We have access to a card swiper from a friend, unless they are unique to each user.
- I've seen something about $60/month fees for some packages but I don't understand if our business would fit into that price category. We would be using it to charge monthly fees, private lesson packages, and on occasion gear purchases.
- What is a "keyed in" purchase? I see it is charged differently than just swiping a card. Is it when you have to punch in the amount for something not on your preset menu of items, or is it when you have to punch in the credit card number, or something totally different?
That's all the questions we have for now, if I think of any more I'll update.
Thanks!

1. there is no startup or monthly fee for Square, you just pay a fee per transaction. Card readers are "dumb devices" and can be connected to anyone's account.
2. $60 a month fee is for a premium package of Square called Square for Retail. you don't need it.
3. a keyed in transaction is a higher rate transaction fee because you manually typed in the credit card info rather than dipping the card or swiping it. you'll want to avoid this as it is a higher rate of fraud and because of the liability shift.
