Square does not offer accounting software. They offer various functions that are part of accounting software, but they don’t have the complex accounting that is required to support income tax filings, accounting reports like P&Ls and Balance Sheets, etc. For those you would need to look elsewhere.
I use Zoho Books, which is reasonably priced, offers everything daily functionality to complex accounting functions that I need to maintain the books for four businesses. More popular accounting software includes ones like Quickbooks, Freshbooks, Xero and Bookkeep, and there are plenty more. Some of these integrate with Square to automatically download your sales transactions, which some people find helpful. I’ve never used this because I am not a fan of that sort of thing, but many people swear by it. I’m an accounting purist and prefer to control my own accounting entries.
Anyway, other people might weigh in with their suggestions, but I’d just recommend that you talk to an accountant that you trust and hopefully is the same person who will be helping you with your tax filings at the end of the year. I find it is best to go with the recommendations of the professional you will be using to help keep your financial records in good order.
