how to correct the number of units of a particular product to be bought -
by mistake I typed two (units) instead of one, and now can't see how to get back to being able to sell only one unit of that product

I'd be happy to help but I'd like to confirm which software version you are using to make sure I send the correct steps.
Are you working from the Square Dashboard or an app? Are you using Square Point of Sale (standard software - black & white app) or Square for Retail (green app)?
