Why won't Square work on ALL Android Phones?

Why won't the Square App work on ALL Android Phones running the latest version of Android Go?

I have bought 2 new Android Phones and keep getting "Secure Denial" error.

I first used a 3G Opel Android and Square works fine, then I thought I would buy the Opel 4G phone which is basically the exact same phone yet Square will not work with it.

Hi @LocalRides,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble using Square on your Opel device.

Unfortunately Opel mobile devices are not tested as compatible with Square. You may find that occasionally non-tested devices will incidentally work with Square if they meet certain Android operating requirements (which is why your old one might have in the past), however we can't guarantee that they will work on an ongoing basis as we continually update the firmware and security in our readers.

Devices we test as compatible are checked for compatibility when we make updates, so please refer to the compatibility page and ensure you're using a device listed as compatible with Square.

Sorry I can't help here! I know this is a really frustrating situation. Our engineers test for compatibility with a lot of different Android devices, but because there are so many on the market we're not able to support them all.

I have bought 2 phones now and not going to buy any more.  If Square won't work on most Android phones then it's really not very useful.  I have the latest version on Android Go on both Opel phones yet the newest 4G phone won't let Square work.  I have an Alcatel TCT and Square won't work on it either.  Not good enough.  There is no reason the Square app can be coded to work with ALL Android phones.  Perhaps you need to find coders who know how to make that happen.

I have found SumUp will soon be available in Australia and has a reader similar to Square.  They state that ALL android phones are compatible with their reader.  It's a shame Square can't do that.
