We are a church and do not have a taxpayer number. Does anything about 1099K apply to us?

Hello @PlymouthUCC

If you processed more than $20,000 dollars in credit or debit and you had at least 200 card transaction, we will file a 1099-K with the IRS. If you don't have a TIN or EIN it will be filled under the Square account owners SSN.

If you still have questions please feel free to reach out to us! 🙂

I do have a tin, so why would I have to use my personal SS#?

Hello @reel_2121

While your taxes will be reported and filed to your TIN we still require an SSN to both verify your identity and associate you as the owner of the account. I hope this information is helpful and Welcome to the Seller Community!

By law, churches need to have an EIN and that is what you should have entered in your Square account here.  https://squareup.com/dashboard/business/taxes . That way the 1099-k won't go to whoever set up the Square account.  From there it is your tax preparer's responsibility to use the form correctly.
