Request: Report item and category sales using current names

Square's sales report functionality is easy to use, and this information is vital for making business decisions. Unfortunately, report data is fragmented if you ever rename or recategorize an item.

I recently ran a report to check the performance of certain items, and discovered my top selling item hadn't sold as often as I thought. It was only 70-80% of what I had expected it to be. Thankfully I scrolled through the whole list, and later discovered the missing sales listed under prior names for that item.

That can be terribly misleading. If I wasn't aware of this shortcoming, I may make a lot of inventory mistakes based on incomplete sales information. I have hundreds of items and have renamed many of them. I've also created new categories and recategorized large swaths of inventory. I cannot always remember which items I've renamed/recategorized, and what the prior names or categories may have been. Even if I can remember, I then need to hunt for them. And even then, category totals will be skewed.

I'm not sure how easily this issue could be fixed. But if there is any way the renamed or recategorized items can be tied back to the original version they were spawned from, then perhaps there would be a way for sales reports to be fixed. My ideal outcome would be for all sales to be reported based on the items' current names and categories.

If that might be confusing in other ways, then perhaps there could be a way to provide both types of reports, as the user desires.
