If you join but do not transact any business, are you charged a fee anyway?

I do freelance word processing.  I would like to be able to accept credit cards, BUT I do not want to be charged just for USING Square... I only want to incur charges/fees IF and WHEN I process a credit card transaction.... Some months I might have NO TRANSACTIONS.  If that means NO CHARGE, then I will sign up with Square... but if I have to pay Square some kind of monthly fee regardless of whether or not I have any credit card processings in a given month, then I will just keep taking checks (!)

No monthly fees whatsoever. You are only charged a fee if you accept a credit transaction. I know you'll love Square as we all do.
