I'm surprised and disappointed that there is no option in the Appointments app for users to choose a Zoom call. Since so many of us are working online these days, it just makes sense to give that option, and not just a home or office visit. I have to instruct my clients to choose "Home" when they want a Zoom session. Not very intuitive.

 

Also, I'm moving my Appointments to Calendly since I found out that the free version of Appointments will not include a Google calendar integration, which to me is a very basic and necessary component of the Appointments app. Calendly offers that integration for free, and since I am a small business, I see no value in staying with Square Appointments.

Hi Ryan,

 

Being able to separate the tax components would be great option. I do have Indigenous customers come in with their tax exemption cards. As they pay part of the tax (GST only) it is complicated to correct at checkout. I tried creating an alternate tax for GST only, however every time I created a new inventory item I had to remember to pick HST or it defaulted to charging both HST and the GST only tax that I had created. 

 

Another thing that irks me is that I get great customer reviews via Square but no one else can see them. It would be amazing if this somehow linked to a Google business page, or our website, so that other people read the reviews. The feedback option for customers is confusing because they don't think it's a private note to me, they think it's a public review. Word of mouth is huge for brick and mortar stores, and this is a resource that is missing the mark for me.

I cannot help with the first point on GST but in regards to Google customer reviews:


Our business has had great luck sending out a short message after receiving Square customer feedback. That is, we will just send a message (through the same Square messaging platform) thanking the customer for their business and positive feedback, the google review link, and if they could leave a review on our Google page. Google My Business will generate a short link for you that the customer can click on and it will instantly prompt the Google review box for your business. It's a workaround and unfortunately I don't think it's possible to link the two.

Hiiiiii!! Welcome! I'm looking forward to working with you on making Square the best it can be!

 

As you can tell, these pain points are...well, pretty painful for small business owners. It's frustrating to notice an issue, come to the community to find advice, and see that it's been an issue for *literal* years and that nothing has yet been done. It can sometimes feel like, "Why ask if nothing's going to be done?" you know?

 

But I absolutely agree with @LukeNieuw in saying that for the few shortcomings that Square has, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Ability to toggle tip options on and off per item. We are service based (tips on) but when we sell a retail item we don't want it to ask for a tip. Just like the taxes we should be able to select if the item is eligible for a tip. 

Also the ability to charge for a deposit and link it to the customer, just like the gift cards do.

YES ABSOLUTELY!!

Now I could have missed something so please tell me if the following option is available somewhere in our account. There needs to be an option to set the currency of our choice. I created a SQUARE account to link to my site, only to find out that we can not change the currency to USD in order to match the site. There is a thread that was created over six years ago but it seems that the option has still not been implemented since. When a company has not fixed a popular issue in that amount of time, it really does not inspire confidence in said company and makes us second guess our decision. 

 

For that reason we have to use another platform for processing payments

I have both the Square Reader and the Square Stand as I have 2 locations that I use them in....it's also nice to know I have a back-up if one needs repairs.  (Neither of them have yet!)

I find it difficult to cancel a transaction immediately if I make a mistake entering the service on the handheld Square Reader.  Is there a shortcut that I'm missing?

Syncing existing customers/subscribers to Square Marketing (opposed to my Starter emails with 2/month). I’d like to offer my first sale code at the end of the month to the list I currently have-which doesn’t offer one time emails or automation. I’ve sent help already, so fingers crossed 🤞🏾. Otherwise, I really enjoy this platform 🤎

We operate a tool store and need to record serial numbers of products we sell. I have created a custom field for this, but there is no way of searching for it in the future if the customer returns the item. I have tried using notes to add the serial number, but you can not use the bar code in that field. Serial numbers are quite long and need to be entered by scanner.

I have tried using the variation field, and it shows up there but there is no way to search again in the future. And the variation name always stays the same when I get new inventory in.

 

Also would like a way to have a deposit on the checkout. I take orders sometime for items and the customer wants to leave a deposit. It would be nice to show that on their receipt with balance owing.

I have tried creating an invoice, but there is no way to print it on my terminal printer. I would need to either email, text.
