Consignment sales are tricky. A lot of the programs out there are not very intuitive, and difficult to tailor to your needs, and are pretty expensive... The cheapest I've seen is about $50-$100/mo, and up to $300+/mo.
If you're like me, you will refuse to pay that much for what seems like a minor convenience... But truth is, it's probably worth it. We spent years developing and fine-tuning a system that works for us. I've spent many many hours at it (learning new things, messing things up, and re-working everything/repeat), and it's not nearly as polished as some of the higher end consignment programs out there. BUT, I've finally got something that works for us, and I no longer spend hours a week combing through sales reports, price sheets, etc. to make payment receipts for consignment vendors. What used to take me at least 1 hour a week, now takes me about 30 seconds.
I've made an Excel spreadsheet that acts as an inventory ledger. Each new item is stored there. It creates a unique SKU number based on the details of the item (ie, vendor ID, wholesale/retail price, date created, etc)... That way, when I download a sales report for the week from Square, I can have Excel deconstruct that SKU# into all the important information needed for consignment vendors. With a little bit of VBA skill, I was able to create an invoice template that auto-populates each vendor's sales for a given date range and have it automatically emailed to them as a PDF. I've looked into contracting this out into a polished app, and most developers quote me ~$2,000-$5,000... Looking back, if I had an extra $5,000 laying around 5 years ago, I would have gladly paid a professional to do this for me... But I'm the type of guy who likes to figure things out and then do it myself.
